Initially facing one felony\u2063 forgery\u200b charge filed\u2064 in June, the three \u2064are\u200c now accused of defrauding the ten presidential electors\u200d who \u200bvoted for Trump. The\u2062 new charges were announced just\u200c days ahead \u200bof their scheduled court \u2062appearances in Dane County.<\/p>\n<p>Each of the eleven felony \u2062charges carries a \u200dmaximum penalty \u2064of six years in prison and a $10,000 fine.The allegations state\u2064 that \u200cthe defendants created a document falsely \u200cclaiming Trump won\u2064 Wisconsin&#8217;s\u2064 ten Electoral College votes and attempted to \u200ddeliver it to former Vice \u2063President Mike pence. The Wisconsin complaint alleges the three men created a document falsely claiming Trump won the state&rsquo;s 10 Electoral College votes and then tried to deliver it to former Vice President Mike Pence.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint filed on Tuesday stated the majority of the 10 electors said they needed to sign the elector certificate stating Trump had won in order to preserve his legal options if a court altered the outcome of the election in the state.<\/p>\n<p>Chesebro allegedly orchestrated the plan to file the fake elector certificates, and Troupis, Trump&rsquo;s attorney in Wisconsin, is accused of assisting him in organizing the fake electors. Roman also allegedly attempted to deliver the falsified paperwork to former Vice President Mike Pence on Jan. 6, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint said a majority of the electors told the investigators that they didn&rsquo;t think their signatures on the certificate would be provided to Congress without a formal court ruling first. <\/p>\n<p>Before the 10 new charges were added, Troupis filed four motions in an attempt to dismiss the charge against him, claiming that having the electors sign the certificate was only done to preserve Trump&rsquo;s legal options in case they filed a lawsuit challenging Wisconsin&rsquo;s vote. The U.S. Supreme Court sided in Trump&rsquo;s favor.<\/p>\n<p>Troupis&rsquo;s second motion argued that they should proceed under federal law rather than state law and that the charges he faced couldn&rsquo;t be brought in state court. The third motion called to dismiss the case, claiming there were no crimes listed in the complaint.<\/p>\n<p>The final motion requested a dismissal once again, as election crimes can only be introduced by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/calif-officials-say-10-of-states-unemployment-payments-linked-to-fraud\/\" title=\"Calif. officials say 10% of state\u2019s unemployment payments linked to fraud\">county district attorney<\/a>, not the state&rsquo;s attorney general. However, Attorney General Josh Kaul, a Democrat, was the one to file the Wisconsin charges in June.<\/p>\n<p>Federal prosecutors investigating the scheme claim that the fake electors&rsquo; plan began in the Badger State.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first development on the case in Wisconsin since Chesebro and Troupis&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/2903329\/wisconsin-settlement-reveals-how-trump-team-tried-overturn-2020-election-key-state\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">settled a lawsuit<\/a>&nbsp;brought against them in 2022 regarding their plan to overturn the 2020 election in the state. There are currently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/exclusive-mother-of-dylan-mcginnis-24-year-old-murdered-by-bailed-out-accused-felon-joe-biden-kamala-harris-should-put-themselves-in-my-shoes\/\" title=\"Exclusive--Mother of Dylan McGinnis, 24-Year-Old Murdered by Bailed Out Accused Felon: Joe Biden, Kamala Harris Should Put Themselves in My Shoes\">pending charges related<\/a> to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/election-lawsuits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">fake electors<\/a>&lsquo; scheme in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3226348\/arizona-attorney-general-no-intention-dropping-fake-electors-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Arizona<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3114974\/georgia-election-board-opens-new-investigation-2020-election-fulton-county\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Georgia\">Georgia<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2383355\/michigan-gop-electors-sued-over-documents-claiming-trump-won-2020-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Michigan\">Michigan<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2875374\/fbi-seized-nevada-gop-chairmans-phone-over-fake-electors-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Nevada\">Nevada<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Roman and Chesebro were two of the 18 people indicted alongside Trump by a Fulton County grand jury in the 2023 Georgia election case. Chesebro pleaded guilty to one felony charge of conspiracy to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-fires-back-after-georgia-indictment-raises-questions-about-charging-documents\/\" title=\"Trump responds to Georgia indictment, raises concerns about charging documents.\">commit filing false documents<\/a>.
