That total represented 101 percent of GDP, a debt-to-GDP ratio not seen since the World War II Era.<\/p>\n<p>By 2023, those numbers had ballooned to $34 trillion and 122 percent, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, according to the real-time <a href=\"https:\/\/mail.usdebtclock.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S. Debt Clock<\/a>, the national debt has exceeded $36.2 trillion as of Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, as IRS Commissioner, Long would have no direct influence over federal spending.<\/p>\n<p>He would, however, have the power to bridle an agency that many Americans associate with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-calls-record-high-taxes-closing-50-rate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">confiscatory policies<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/bidens-armed-irs-agents-already-making-raids-gop-congressman-demands-answers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tyrannical behavior<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/news\/healthiest-communities\/slideshows\/richest-counties-in-america\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S. News &amp; World Report<\/a>, in 2023 five of America&rsquo;s ten wealthiest counties by median household income qualified as suburbs of Washington, D.C. Those counties are Arlington, Howard, Fairfax, Falls Church and Loudoun.<\/p>\n<p>The fact that physical proximity to the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">federal government helps enhance personal wealth<\/a> should strike ordinary Americans as confiscatory tyranny.<\/p>\n<p>Likewise, the national debt constitutes an even more effective tool for redistributing wealth upward.<\/p>\n<p>In 1795, James Madison explained why warmongering elites love a national debt.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Of all the enemies to public liberty war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded, because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes; and armies, and debts, and taxes are the known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few,&rdquo; <a href=\"https:\/\/founders.archives.gov\/documents\/Madison\/01-15-02-0423\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Madison<\/a> wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Trump, of course, has already tasked two of his most brilliant allies with reducing the size and scope of government. Through the new &ldquo;Department of Government Efficiency,&rdquo; X owner Elon Musk and former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/musk-ramaswamy-lay-exact-plan-destroying-federal-bureaucracy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tame the federal bureaucracy<\/a>, thereby signaling the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-cant-deny-responsibility-for-our-so-so-divided-nation\/\" title=\"Biden Can\u2019t Deny Responsibility For Our \u2018So, So Divided\u2019 Nation\">president-elect&#038;rsquo<\/a>;s intent to return self-government to the people.<\/p>\n<p>By placing Long in charge of the IRS, Trump has amplified that same message.
