Many analysts believed that Yoon would resign before the vote took place. Instead, his anticipated speech offered an apology and pledge not to declare martial law again. Another motion to impeach was introduced for the next available date &mdash; Dec. 11.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We&rsquo;ll surely impeach Yoon Suk Yeol, who is the greatest risk to the Republic of Korea,&rdquo; opposition party leader&nbsp;Lee Jae-myung&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/south-korea-politics-yoon-martial-law-impeachment-3f2a9190bf5cec83b49e2c6ad5cf5379?user_email=162c5ae443a61a52f524de737cc6f3c61712d530f24f119829e8cac99ab49798&amp;utm_medium=APNews_Alerts&amp;utm_source=Sailthru_AP&amp;utm_campaign=NewsAlert_Dec07_2024_07:37AM&amp;utm_term=AP%20News%20Alerts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"said\">said<\/a>. &ldquo;We&rsquo;ll surely bring back this country to normal before Christmas Day or year&rsquo;s end.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3220326\/five-democrats-prime-position-face-party-2028\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><strong>FIVE DEMOCRATS IN PRIME POSITION TO BE FACE OF THE PARTY IN 2028<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another opposition lawmaker, Kim Joon-hyung, said Yoon was &ldquo;done,&rdquo; and won&rsquo;t make it to the end of his term.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The sooner that he resigns or is impeached, the better for our country,&rdquo; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Only one People Power Party lawmaker returned to vote, voting against the impeachment. Kim Sang-wook told journalists that the conservatism that &ldquo;protects free Republic of Korea&rdquo; must be preserved.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I want to believe his words,&rdquo; he said of Yoon&rsquo;s apology, though clarified that he voted off of his party&rsquo;s opinion, despite his personal issues with Yoon.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3220431\/how-elon-musk-helped-trump-back-to-white-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><strong>HOW ELON MUSK HELPED WILL TRUMP BACK TO THE WHITE HOUSE<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In a two minute address, Yoon apologized for his declaration of martial law before the vote on Saturday, saying the declaration of martial law &ldquo;stemmed from my desperation as the ultimate responsible party for state affairs.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I am deeply sorry and sincerely apologize to the citizens who must have been greatly shocked,&rdquo; he said, later adding that he &ldquo;will not avoid the legal and political responsibility related to this martial law declaration.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>He promised not to declare martial law again.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><strong><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday night, Yoon&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/foreign-policy\/3249311\/south-korea-martial-law-blunder-could-tarnish-major-biden-accomplishment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"declared\">declared<\/a> martial law&nbsp;for the first time in South Korea since 1980, and the first time since the country has been a democracy. His rationale was alleged pro-North Korean interests taking control of parliament and other &ldquo;anti-state&rdquo; forces. Immediately, opposition lawmakers rushed to the National Assembly, jumping over barricades and locking out special forces soldiers.
