However, their rhetoric this week marks a softening toward Johnson.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I will be supporting him for speaker, of course,&rdquo; Greene said during an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/live-updates\/2024\/12\/04\/congress\/greenes-johnson-speaker-support-00192658\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><em>Politico<\/em><\/a>.&nbsp;&ldquo;He&rsquo;s got everyone coming around him for him to be able to pass the agenda that I&rsquo;m sure he wished he could have passed this Congress.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>She had previously slammed Johnson for not leading House Republicans to a stronger majority following the 2024 elections. Although the GOP successfully held its majority in the lower chamber, Greene <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3229784\/mtg-blames-johnson-gop-thin-majority-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">blamed<\/a> the speaker for not helping deliver a &ldquo;super majority&rdquo; earlier this month. Often criticizing Johnson for <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">endorsing large federal spending packages passed annually<\/a> by Congress, Greene<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/2973122\/marjorie-taylor-greene-moves-oust-johnson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"> led<\/a> an unsuccessful campaign, which was joined by Massie, to remove him from the position in May.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3222408\/joe-biden-lame-duck-session-trump-proof-legacy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><strong>BIDEN TO USE LAME-DUCK SESSION TO &lsquo;TRUMP-PROOF&rsquo; LEGACY<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Rep. Scott Applewhite)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Massie, who is a member of the House Freedom Caucus, a group of conservatives who often oppose establishment Republicans, also appears to be warming up to Johnson.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We&rsquo;ve been talking,&rdquo; Massie told the <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/house\/4947831-house-gop-leadership-johnson-jordan-scalise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><em>Hill<\/em><\/a>  after he was pressed on whether he still opposed Johnson. &ldquo;We talked last week.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3220431\/how-elon-musk-helped-trump-back-to-white-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><strong>HOW ELON MUSK HELPED WILL TRUMP BACK TO THE WHITE HOUSE<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Compared to his pledge in October not to ever vote for Johnson as speaker &ldquo;come hell or high water,&rdquo; Massie&rsquo;s words indicate a marked turn in his favor.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>His now-tentative stance follows President-elect Donald Trump&rsquo;s move to endorse Johnson to remain the speaker, which likely pushed hardliners such as Massie and Greene to reconsider their opposition.<\/p>\n<p>When asked if he would endorse Johnson in September, Massie <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3166891\/mike-johnson-survives-budget-fight-future-leadership-less-certain\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">said<\/a>, &ldquo;I think it would take Trump&rsquo;s endorsement to do that.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Johnson already unanimously won the GOP&rsquo;s nomination to remain the speaker on Nov. 13.
