This marks the lowest average price since May 2021. The reduction in gas prices has been a gradual trend as the summer, providing relief to drivers who have faced financial strain due to prices exceeding $3 per\u200d gallon and briefly surpassing $4 in\u2062 earlier periods. On Friday, the national average cost for regular gas fell to $3.026 per gallon, down from $3.063 a week ago.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>The price of gas has gradually decreased since the summer. Tuesday&rsquo;s price is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gas-prices-decrease-at-the-pumps-as-gas-costs-match-lowest-price-in-2024-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Gas prices: Decrease at the pumps as gas costs match lowest price in 2024 - Washington Examiner\">lowest national average price<\/a> for gas since May 2021, when the average cost for regular gas was $2.985 per gallon,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/dnav\/pet\/hist\/leafhandler.ashx?n=pet&amp;s=emm_epmr_pte_nus_dpg&amp;f=m\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> according to<\/a> the Energy Information Administration. After another spike in 2023, gas prices began declining again in May 2024 and have continued to fall each month.<\/p>\n<p>However, even with the substantial decrease in gas prices over the last half of the year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/americans-brace-for-most-expensive-thanksgiving-gas-prices-ever\/\" title=\"Americans Brace for Most Expensive Thanksgiving Gas Prices Ever\">prices remain higher<\/a> now than when<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\"> President-elect Donald Trump<\/a> was in office between January 2017 and January 2021. With Trump set to take office on Jan. 20, 2025, it remains to be seen what impact his presidency will have on gas prices.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, gas prices continue to fluctuate across the nation.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/hawaii\/\"> Hawaii<\/a> has the most expensive gas prices in the country, at $4.559 per gallon. Meanwhile,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/oklahoma\/\"> Oklahoma<\/a> has the least expensive gas in the nation, at $2.528 per gallon.<a href=\"https:\/\/gasprices.aaa.com\/\"> Click here<\/a> to see the cost of gas in different states. Read below to see the average prices for a gallon of regular gas in and around Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Delaware<\/h2>\n<p>The average price for a gallon of gas in Delaware decreased on Friday, falling to a new low of $2.885. This was a fairly significant drop from a week ago, when a gallon of regular gas was $2.977. Gas prices have fluctuated a bit over the last month in the First State. Yet despite this inconsistent pricing, Friday&rsquo;s price for regular gas in Delaware is less expensive than a month ago, when regular gas cost $2.965 per gallon.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Maryland<\/h2>\n<p>Gas prices also fell in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/maryland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Maryland\">Maryland<\/a> on Friday, dropping to $3.001 per gallon. This was a decrease from a week ago, when a gallon of regular gas in Maryland was $3.067. Similar to Delaware, Maryland also had a significant price fluctuation in November. Earlier in November, gas prices had soared in Maryland with a cost of $3.157. Recently, however, gas prices have trended downward in the state. Friday&rsquo;s price was less expensive than a month ago, when regular gas was $3.057 per gallon.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Virginia<\/h2>\n<p>Gas prices also fell in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/virginia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Virginia<\/a> on Friday, coming in at $2.915, more than three cents cheaper than a week ago. A month ago, a gallon of regular gas in Virginia was $3.003. Much like the other states in the Delmarva region, gas prices in Virginia experienced a significant fluctuation in November before ultimately reverting back to a lower price near the $3 per gallon mark.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Washington, D.C.<\/h2>\n<p>Washington, D.C., continues to be the outlier in the region where gas prices are north of $3.20 per gallon &ndash; much more expensive than prices in Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. On Friday, the average price for a gallon of regular gas dipped in the city, to a price of $3.224. This was the smallest of decreases from Thursday, when regular gas was ever-so-slightly more expensive at $3.226. A week ago, gas less than a penny more than it was on Friday, with a price of $3.232 per gallon.
