And while it takes time to get a novel <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">multi-billion dollar program<\/a> going across 50 states, the states are on track,&rdquo; Buttigieg <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SecretaryPete\/status\/1861213957144358934\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">argued<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He then provided a <a href=\"https:\/\/pluginamerica.org\/nevi-funding-tracking\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a> with further information about the NEVI program.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/gop-senator-gives-musk-ramaswamy-head-start-cutting-trillions-government-spending\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Musk<\/a> replied, &ldquo;This is helpful to understand.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">This is helpful to understand<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Elon Musk (@elonmusk) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1861222555396513885?\">November 26, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>It&rsquo;s not clear whether Musk meant his response slightly tongue-in-cheek.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/factcheck\/2024\/10\/18\/internet-access-ev-charging-funds-fact-check\/75686407007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">USA Today<\/a> did a fact check last month of the claim that only a handful of stations had been built since the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/inflation-explodes-biden-newly-passed-infrastructure-bill-make-things-lot-worse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">infrastructure bill<\/a> passed in the fall of 2021.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;As of Oct. 11, there were 20 stations with 81 operational charging ports in nine states built with National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure funds, a spokesperson for the Federal Highway Administration&rdquo; told the news outlet.<\/p>\n<p>Buttigieg had mentioned the nine states in his post above, but he neglected to say it was only 20 charging stations &mdash; or whatever the small total is now.<\/p>\n<p>USA Today added, &ldquo;[T]hose numbers are expected to grow as there are plans underway in 33 states for a total of 3,320 charging ports across 830 charging stations.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The ultimate goal of the NEVI program is to someday cover all 50 states, according to the website Buttigieg d.<\/p>\n<p>For now, let&rsquo;s just take $7.6 billion allocated and divide it by the current plans to build 830 stations, that&rsquo;s over $9 million per station.<\/p>\n<p>Now compare that to the cost of putting in a Tesla supercharging station, which is <a href=\"https:\/\/appinventiv.com\/blog\/cost-to-build-ev-fast-charging-system-like-tesla-supercharger\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reportedly<\/a> roughly around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quora.com\/What-is-the-cost-of-building-a-Tesla-supercharger-station-and-how-does-it-affect-the-companys-profits\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$250,000<\/a> to $300,000.<\/p>\n<p>Obviously, there can be other costs involved, such as acquiring use of the land, etc., but that at least gives a sense of the wide disparity in cost between the government building charging stations with taxpayer money and the private sector doing so.<\/p>\n<p>And that is to say nothing about the fact that the legislation was passed in 2021, and three years later only 20 stations have been built.<\/p>\n<p>So <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/donald-trump-jr-unleashes-doj-putting-fathers-life-even-risk-reckless-ryan-routh-move\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trump<\/a> and Rep.
