Or winterize it?&rdquo; Thornton&rsquo;s character asked. &ldquo;In its 20-year lifespan, it won&rsquo;t offset the carbon footprint of making it.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>While not mentioned in the show, disposal of turbine parts is a perennial problem in the industry. In 2020, <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">mapping satellites revealed damaged turbine blades<\/a>, too strong to crush and so resilient that they won&rsquo;t decompose if left outside, are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/birds-eye-view-can-show-scale-wind-powers-dirty-secret\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">simply being buried beneath the earth<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Thornton&rsquo;s character didn&rsquo;t limit his ire to wind energy.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;And don&rsquo;t get me started on solar panels and the lithium in your Tesla battery,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;And never mind the fact that, if the whole world decided to go electric tomorrow, we don&rsquo;t have the transmission lines to get the electricity to the cities. It&rsquo;d take 30 years if we started tomorrow.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>He emphasized the foundational place petrochemicals have on world society.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;And, hell, it&rsquo;s in everything,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;That road we came in on. The wheels on every car ever made, including yours. It&rsquo;s in tennis rackets and lipstick and refrigerators and antihistamines. Pretty much anything plastic. Your cell phone case, artificial heart valves. Any kind of clothing that&rsquo;s not made with animal or plant fibers. Soap, f***ing hand lotion, garbage bags, fishing boats. You name it. Every f***ing thing.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;And you know what the kicker is?
