Steven Choi, a former Republican state senator, won against incumbent Democrat Josh Newman in Orange County. Newman’s previous term saw⁣ a recall in 2018 linked to his support for a <a href="https://www.conservativenewsdaily.net/breaking-news/rep-biggs-joe-bidens-plans-to-raise-gas-taxes-will-hurt-americans/" title="Rep. His recent loss was attributed by Democrats to significant funding from ‌the ⁢American‌ Federation of State, County ⁢and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) 3299, which spent $3.5 million to support Choi and oppose Newman, following controversy over Newman’s failure to support a bill aimed at expanding workers’ rights in the University of California system. While Newman raised $7 million in his campaign for the 2024 election, Choi had significantly less at $564,193, highlighting disparities in campaign funding and support.

California GOP flip second state legislative seat, 3 weeks after election

(The Center Square) – California Republicans flipped a second seat in the state legislature, nearly three weeks after the general election.
