for fact-checking<\/h1>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"tdb-title-line\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"tdb-block-inner td-fix-index\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"tdb-block-inner td-fix-index\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"tdb-block-inner td-fix-index\">\n<div id=\"Brid_1894453\" class=\"tpd-featured-video bridtv\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/united-nations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">UNESCO<\/a> is warning that influencers on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/social-media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">social media<\/a> are in need of fact-checking training.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>The report by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/education\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"educational\">educational<\/a> arm of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/unesco\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"United Nations\">United Nations<\/a> said influencers spend little time fact-checking the information they share, which can lead to the spread of disinformation or misinformation, highlighting a need for more stringent fact-checking in the online space, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/media\/2024\/nov\/26\/online-influencers-need-urgent-fact-checking-training-warns-unesco\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">the <em>Guardian<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The report said that 6 out of 10 influencers said they did not verify the accuracy of the information they share before they post it, while 4 in 10 cited the &ldquo;popularity&rdquo; of the information as being the key factor in whether it was shared or not, according to the report.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The low prevalence of factchecking highlights their vulnerability to misinformation, which can have far-reaching consequences for public discourse and trust in media,&rdquo; the report said.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The prevalent lack of rigorous critical evaluation of information highlights an urgent need to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/john-wick-and-hunger-games-studio-lionsgate-under-fire-after-unprecedented-ai-deal\/\" title=\"\u2018John Wick\u2019 and \u2018Hunger Games\u2019 Studio Lionsgate Under Fire After Unprecedented AI Deal\">enhance creators&#038;rsquo<\/a>; media information literacy skills,&rdquo; according to UNESCO.<\/p>\n<p>Influencers were less likely to use government websites or reports as information and more likely to use &ldquo;personal experience&rdquo; or their &ldquo;own research&rdquo; when sharing information online, the report noted.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>More than one-fourth of the influencers surveyed said they weren&rsquo;t aware of the regulations covering their vocation, while at least half did not bother disclosing whether they were sponsored or not.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">survey involved 500 content creators<\/a> from 45 countries and territories. Most influencers were under 35 and had up to 10,000 followers, while a quarter had &ldquo;up to&rdquo; 100,000 followers.
