House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/michael-mccaul\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Michael McCaul<\/a> (R-TX) said in a statement Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3154530\/biden-trying-shape-legacy-with-months-left-white-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><strong>HOW BIDEN IS TRYING TO SHAPE HIS LEGACY WITH JUST MONTHS LEFT IN OFFICE<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The secretary was subpoenaed to appear on Sept. 24 for a hearing but did not attend due to scheduling conflicts, so the committee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3164477\/house-foreign-affairs-votes-hold-blinken-contempt-congress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">passed a resolution to hold him in contempt<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It&rsquo;s unfortunate the secretary agreed to appear only after my <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">committee advanced contempt proceedings<\/a> against him,&rdquo; McCaul said. &ldquo;While I wish he had not delayed this crucial appearance until the end of his tenure as head of the State Department, I look forward to hearing his testimony and asking poignant questions to help House Republicans and the next administration ensure nothing like this ever happens again.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The September hearing came two weeks after the committee&rsquo;s GOP majority&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3146525\/house-foreign-affairs-afghanistan-withdrawal-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">released a lengthy report<\/a>&nbsp;laying out several breakdowns of security and communication that led to the controversial withdrawal.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans blasted Blinken for refusing to appear in September, but the Department of State had argued the secretary had been fully cooperative with the House committee.
