This three-credit\u2063 course, taught by Professor Sydney Lewis, aims to explore\u2064 the concept of fatness as an intersectional issue, particularly\u200b focusing on its \u200brelationship with race, specifically blackness. The curriculum will address fatness as a dimension of \u2062human difference subject to privilege and discrimination and \u2062will analyse it through an <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">interdisciplinary lens encompassing humanities<\/a> and social sciences. Her subject interests are black feminist theory and culture, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/a-drain-on-resources-desantis-announces-war-on-college-diversity-funding-and-deadweight-professors\/\" title=\"\u2018A Drain On Resources\u2019: DeSantis Announces War On College Diversity Funding And \u2018Deadweight\u2019 Professors\">black queer theory<\/a>, mad studies, and disability justice to name a few.<\/p>\n<p>In the winter of 2022, Lewis taught a course called &ldquo;Bodies in Contention.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The class looked at bodies that, according to the course description, cause &ldquo;societal discomfort,&rdquo; and how observing these &ldquo;marginalized&rdquo; groups encourage people to consider all body types &ldquo;as socially constructed.&rdquo; Such bodies were stated as &ldquo;non-white bodies, fat bodies, disabled bodies, queer, intersex, and trans gender bodies.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The Center Square reached out to WGSS academic program manager Gwen Warman and University of Maryland <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tufts-student-government-attacks-jewish-member-for-defending-israel\/\" title=\"Tufts Student Government Attacks Jewish Member for Defending Israel\">media relations<\/a>.
