His remarks emphasize the need for accountability for those who \u2064prosecuted \u2062Trump,\u200c suggesting that they should face retribution beyond just the removal of special prosecutor Jack Smith. They all fell apart under the weight of the law,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;And so I do think there needs to be accountability. I think that getting it back to crime fighting is important, but there has to be accountability for these kinds of abuses.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>When pressed on what this would entail, Schmitt said that it should go much further than just removing special prosecutor Jack Smith.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I think accountability means, first and foremost, the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">people involved<\/a> with this should be fired immediately,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;And anybody a part of this, this effort to keep President Trump off the ballot, and to throw him in jail for the rest of his life because they didn&rsquo;t like his politics, and to continue to cast him as a &lsquo;threat to democracy,&rsquo; was wrong, and so we&rsquo;ll see where that goes.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3222408\/joe-biden-lame-duck-session-trump-proof-legacy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><strong>BIDEN TO USE LAME-DUCK SESSION TO &lsquo;TRUMP-PROOF&rsquo; LEGACY<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;But I just don&rsquo;t think in this country, unless we want to be a banana republic, I don&rsquo;t want to see that happen. You can&rsquo;t have the Justice Department abused in this way,&rdquo; Schmitt added.<\/p>\n<p>He also praised Trump&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-ag-nominee-wont-commit-to-keeping-durham-as-special-counsel\/\" title=\"Biden\u2019s AG nominee won\u2019t commit to keeping Durham as special counsel\">attorney general nominee<\/a>, Pam Bondi, saying she would end the &ldquo;weaponization&rdquo; of the DOJ.<\/p>\n<p>Schmitt was previously on the shortlist to become Trump&rsquo;s attorney general.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><strong><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Trump and his allies have always portrayed the four criminal indictments against him as politically motivated, arguing that President Joe Biden and the Democrats were using the DOJ to crush their foremost opponent, accusations they denied.
