Thank you for your kind words.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">There were a number of factors that led to <\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/msnbc-ratings-crater-election-network-gives-rachel-maddow-brutal-new-deal-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Trump&rsquo;s victory<\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">  , certainly including the effect of inflation on the vast majority of regular people, widespread upset regarding the border, and so on.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">But nothing turned out to be as important as the sense that when Harris and others accused Trump of being a totalitarian they were projecting.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Two aspects of this particularly stand out, and we heard them again and again from people like Elon Musk and Joe Rogan (not to mention RFK and Tulsi Gabbard), not one of which is historically anything in the ballpark of &ldquo;Republican&rdquo;.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">1. The ever-growing number of political prisoners.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">  Lots of senior Trump advisors were jailed for things no one or virtually no one else has ever been jailed for (&ldquo;contempt of Congress&rdquo; topping the list), &ldquo;crimes&rdquo; which the other side not only blatantly committed but which the media made into heroic causes when they did.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">There is an overwhelming sense among many regular people that they have become second-class citizens, that government can and will target them any time it feels like it, and that if they only had different political beliefs they could get away with literally anything.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">I don&rsquo;t want to get deeply into the details of any of these cases because that completely misses the point. But the Trump documents indictment is a perfect example.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Biden literally kept <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/roger-stone-announces-he-will-sue-those-who-arrested-him-and-put-him-in-front-of-a-kangaroo-court\/\" title=\"Roger Stone Announces He Will Sue Those Who Arrested Him and Put Him In Front of a Kangaroo Court\">classified documents<\/a> in his garage; <\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/joe-rogan-knew-trump-comedic-instincts-5-unexpected-words-hillary-clinton\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Clinton<\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">  had all the secrets of the US State Department on an unauthorized server in her basement; Sandy Berger got caught smuggling classified documents out of the National Archives&nbsp; <\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">in his shoes<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">  , and NOTHING HAPPENED to any of them. Nothing.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">But Trump&rsquo;s home gets raided by federal agents authorized to use deadly force.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">I&rsquo;m not opining on whether Trump was right or wrong, though I believe the President&rsquo;s power to declassify is absolute, that there&rsquo;s no good reason to believe he didn&rsquo;t declassify anything he kept, that the Presidential Records Act covers everything he did, and that none of those things apply to any of the other three people I just named.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">All that is true, in my opinion, but irrelevant. That&rsquo;s not why most normal people got mad, or scared.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">They got mad, and scared, because of the selective prosecutions. Justice that isn&rsquo;t equal is absolutely unjust, and you don&rsquo;t need a law degree to know that in your gut.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">So that&rsquo;s the bigger of the two, which leads me to:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">2. Mass censorship.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">  &nbsp;Leading Democrats absolutely horrifying repudiation of the First Amendment &mdash; which, like the prosecutions, was nevertheless highly selective &mdash; was already bad enough before Labor won the general election in Great Britain.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">And then, all of a sudden, Starmer&rsquo;s government was releasing violent criminals from the prisons to make room for people who posted&nbsp; <\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">memes<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">  &nbsp;the government didn&rsquo;t like.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Oh, and threatening to extradite <\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/elon-musk-buying-msnbc-social-media-world-jumps-conclusions-noticing-familiar-question-billionaire\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Elon<\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">  .<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Did they retract that last bit? Yes. Does that mean they wouldn&rsquo;t try it tomorrow? No, as evidenced by the CEO of  getting arrested in France (again, don&rsquo;t get caught up in whether you like or don&rsquo;t like : that&rsquo;s not the point).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Add this to the church closings during COVID while strip clubs and casinos were allowed to stay open, and the overwhelming documentation of the media&rsquo;s suppression of important stories as &ldquo;disinformation&rdquo; which later turned out to be true &mdash; and later turned out to be&nbsp; <\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">known to be true<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">  &nbsp;by the government before the suppression took place &mdash; and this became rightly terrifying to many.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Basically, what I&rsquo;m describing sounds a lot like Venezuela, from the mouths of people who call themselves Socialists and mouth slogans previously used by Castro, Chavez, Maduro and Ortega.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"firefly-embed\"> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Walz Says 'There's No Guarantee to Free Speech' for Misinformation, Hate Speech\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/WxoH1fgEg9A?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<div data-attrs='{\"videoId\":\"WxoH1fgEg9A\",\"startTime\":null,\"endTime\":null}' data-component-name=\"Youtube2ToDOM\">\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">So I refer you back to RFK, Tulsi Gabbard, as well as people like Bill Maher who still endorsed Harris but have been highly critical of the current Administration on all these points.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">There came to be a growing sense that we are on the brink of losing &ldquo;Our Democracy&rdquo; (a phrasing which has come to be seen as highly condescending by half the country), but that the people threatening it were actually the <\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/democrats-push-bidens-leftist-judicial-nominees-multiple-republican-senators-fail-show\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Democrats<\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">  themselves.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Who wants to close your church (but not the things your church opposes)? Who wants to censor your internet posts and (if Europe is our example) possibly jail you for them? Who wants you to show an ID for absolutely everything except voting? Who actually jails their political opponents?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Not the Republicans.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">And on that last note: Trump made a lot of hay with the &ldquo;Because you&rsquo;d be in jail&rdquo; line in the 2016 debate:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"firefly-embed\"> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Trump To Clinton: 'Because You'd Be In Jail'\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_XzL1sQWRd4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">But we don&rsquo;t have to wonder who he is or what he&rsquo;d do, because he&rsquo;s actually been President. And once actually in office, he refused to allow a prosecution of Hillary Clinton precisely because it was a Third World kind of thing to do.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">All of which suggests to normal people that his rhetoric was making the point that she did things that were wrong, but not that anyone should use the full power of government to silence and imprison the opposition.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The economy mattered. Demonizing half the country as fascists and Nazis and deplorables and &ldquo;garbage&rdquo; mattered. Telling working class people that it doesn&rsquo;t matter if they lose their jobs because they should just &ldquo;learn to code&rdquo; mattered. Lots and lots of things mattered.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">But all that condescension was crystallized in the unequal &ldquo;justice&rdquo; and the censorship, and the sense that under Harris it would not just get worse, but go far past the point of no return.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">People who hold you in utter contempt are likely to do literally anything to you, especially when they&rsquo;re telling you at least some of the things they&rsquo;re planning.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/bernie-sanders-take-shot-kamala-harris-senator-drops-bomb-democrats-stunning-dnc-moment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Bernie Sanders<\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">  is correct: this is a self-inflicted wound. Democrats lost the working class, and men, and a lot of minorities, including nearly half of Hispanics, because they hold all those people in open, vocal contempt.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Disgust, really. It doesn&rsquo;t have to be that way, and it shouldn&rsquo;t be.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">But even more essential than stopping the demonization of half the country is giving up the weaponization of government against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hes-laughed-at-in-washington-trump-calls-out-tom-rice-at-south-carolina-rally\/\" title=\"&#039;He&#039;s Laughed at in Washington&#039;: Trump Calls Out Tom Rice at South Carolina Rally\">domestic political opponents<\/a>. America rightly ran Nixon out of office for a great deal less.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">&ldquo;Our Democracy&rdquo; requires no less.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><i><b>The views expressed in this opinion article are those of their author and are not necessarily either d or endorsed by the owners of this website. Several factors contributed to Trump&#8217;s win, including inflation affecting many everyday people and widespread dissatisfaction regarding border issues. However, what stood out most was the perception that when Harris and others labeled Trump as totalitarian, they were projecting their own tendencies.<\/p>\n<p>Two key points emerged repeatedly from voices like Elon Musk and Joe Rogan\u2014who are not traditionally aligned with Republicans:<\/p>\n<p>1. The increasing number of political prisoners: Many senior advisors of Trump faced charges for actions that few others have been prosecuted for (like &#8220;contempt of Congress&#8221;). This has led many ordinary citizens to feel like second-class citizens who could be targeted by the government at any time based on their beliefs.<\/p>\n<p>2. Mass censorship: The Democrats&#8217; alarming disregard for the First Amendment\u2014similar to selective prosecutions\u2014was already troubling before Labor&#8217;s victory in Britain prompted even more extreme measures against dissenting voices.<\/p>\n<p>This situation has left many feeling as if we are on the verge of losing &#8220;Our Democracy,&#8221; a phrase now seen as condescending by half the population while recognizing that those threatening it may actually be Democrats themselves.<\/p>\n<p>The economy played a significant role too; demonizing large segments of society as fascists or deplorables mattered greatly alongside dismissive attitudes towards working-class concerns.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, Democrats have alienated various groups\u2014including working-class individuals and minorities\u2014due to their contemptuous stance toward them.
