According to \u200ca Washington Post report, Trump aims to remove Smith&#8217;s team, which <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">includes career attorneys typically shielded<\/a> from political\u2064 retaliation. Smith had \u200bannounced he would \u2062resign and conclude his \u2062federal cases \u200dagainst Trump before the inauguration in January.<\/p>\n<p>Trump faces indictments related to the unlawful retention of classified documents and efforts \u2063to overturn the\u200c 2020 election, as well as\u200c the January 6\u200c Capitol attack, to which he has pleaded not \u200cguilty. Smith had previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3228244\/jack-smith-to-resign-and-wind-down-cases-against-trump-before-inauguration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">said he will resign<\/a> from the post and wind down his federal cases against Trump before he takes the oath of office in January.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In June 2023, Smith indicted Trump on charges that he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/allen-west-the-new-american-politburo\/\" title=\"Allen West: The New American Politburo\">unlawfully retained classified documents<\/a> and obstructed the government&rsquo;s efforts to retrieve them. In August 2023, Trump was indicted on four <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/jussie-smollett-hate-crime-hoax-goes-to-trial-years-after-soros-backed-d-a-kim-foxx-dropped-charges\/\" title=\"Jussie Smollett Hate Crime Hoax Goes to Trial Years After Soros-Backed D.A. Kim Foxx Dropped Charges\">felony counts related<\/a> to his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3175044\/jack-smith-lays-out-2020-election-case-against-trump-in-newly-unsealed-filing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">efforts to overthrow the 2020 election<\/a> and the subsequent deadly Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Trump pleaded not guilty to both cases, and the classified documents case was later thrown out. Each case was riddled with delays as Trump&rsquo;s legal team appealed various aspects of the prosecutions, including an immunity challenge brought by Trump in his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trumps-bond-set-at-200k-in-fulton-county-2020-elections-subversion-case\/\" title=\"Trump&#039;s bond in Fulton County 2020 elections subversion case set at 0K.\">federal election subversion case<\/a> that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3191343\/jack-smith-obstruction-charge-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">made its way to<\/a> the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>During his campaign, Trump ran on overhauling the Department of Justice, which he claims is weaponized against him. As he becomes president, Trump &ldquo;wants to clean out &lsquo;the bad guys, the people who went after me,&rsquo;&rdquo; someone familiar with his plans told the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>Smith&rsquo;s office is composed of dozens of attorneys, FBI agents, and support staff from various parts of the Justice Department. Those who worked for Smith on the Trump cases likely did not choose to do so and were rather assigned to the job.<\/p>\n<p>Most of Smith&rsquo;s team are mid- and upper-level career staffers on detail to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-debate-performance-renews-spotlight-on-hur-tapes-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Biden debate performance renews spotlight on Hur tapes - Washington Examiner\">special counsel&#038;rsquo<\/a>;s team from divisions within the main Justice Department in Washington, D.C., or from U.S. attorneys&rsquo; offices throughout the country.<\/p>\n<p>In previous special counsel investigations, these types of staff attorneys typically return to their regular jobs after their temporary assignments end. Some of Smith&rsquo;s teams have already done just that.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;President Trump campaigned on firing rogue bureaucrats who have engaged in the illegal weaponization of our American justice system, and the American people can expect he will deliver on that promise,&rdquo; Trump&rsquo;s press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement on the matter.<\/p>\n<p>House Republicans previously told Justice Department officials that anyone who had worked on the Trump cases with Smith should <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3223819\/house-republicans-warn-jack-smith-preserve-records-trump-cases\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">preserve all of their communications<\/a> in a move that signaled that Smith, among others, could be targeted by congressional investigators.<\/p>\n<p>Trump also apparently plans to use the DOJ to investigate the 2020 election in which he lost to President Joe Biden but has continued to claim that his loss was due to widespread cheating. Many <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brookings.edu\/articles\/widespread-election-fraud-claims-by-republicans-dont-match-the-evidence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">investigations<\/a> have found no proof of the widespread voter fraud Trump and his GOP allies claimed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><strong><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Since his loss four years ago, Trump has used vague language to suggest that he would try to prosecute state officials who did not go along with his plan to overturn the results of the election.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Please beware that this legal exposure extends to Lawyers, Political Operatives, Donors, Illegal Voters, &amp; Corrupt Election Officials.
