Over the last four years, President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Joe Biden<\/a> reinstated the Obama-era rule for the logs on a monthly basis.<\/p>\n<p>In the telling of watchdogs, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-wont-release-delaware-visitor-logs-despite-17-trips-home\/\" title=\"Biden Won\u2019t Release Delaware Visitor Logs Despite 17 Trips Home\">releasing visitor logs<\/a> is a basic level of transparency, providing the public with a window into who may be influencing their government and scoring access to the halls of power. Visitor logs are subject to the Presidential Records Act, meaning they are not required to be made public immediately, but they <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archives.gov\/news\/topics\/presidential-records-act#:~:text=The%20Freedom%20of%20Information%20Act,the%20onset%20of%20public%20access.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">can<\/a> be requested <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/foia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">through<\/a> the Freedom of Information Act five years after an administration ends. By that time, however, the records are likely of less public interest.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Visitors logs should be made public,&rdquo; CEO Peter Flaherty of the National Legal and Policy Center, an ethics watchdog group, told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The White House sits atop a vast executive bureaucracy,&rdquo; said Flaherty, whose group has helped <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/1400899\/blms-millions-unaccounted-for-after-leaders-quietly-jumped-ship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">uncover scandals<\/a> ranging <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2162671\/black-lives-matter-leader-accused-of-siphoning-off-10-million\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">from<\/a> the Black Lives Matter charity&rsquo;s financial mismanagement to the Biden administration&rsquo;s apparent <a href=\"https:\/\/nlpc.org\/current-projects\/after-media-hype-biden-disregards-his-own-ethics-rules\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">disregard<\/a> of its own ethics rules. &ldquo;The White House should set an example for transparency, even though it&rsquo;s not required by law.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>It&rsquo;s unclear if Trump intends to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/joe-biden-wraps-up-2021-with-31-trips-to-delaware\/\" title=\"Joe Biden Wraps Up 2021 with 31 Trips to Delaware\">release visitor logs<\/a>, and spokespeople for the Trump transition team did not respond to requests for comment. Still, failing to do so could conflict with Trump&rsquo;s other plans for the second administration. The Biden administration still faced significant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.openthebooks.com\/washington-examiner-biden-epa-taxpayer-settlement-payouts-quietly-soar-to-left-wing-climate-activists\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">scrutiny<\/a> from watchdogs over transparency <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/investigations\/3049550\/gina-raimondo-husbands-interests\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">concerns<\/a>, including in connection to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hamas-recruitment-college-raked-in-2m-from-us-taxpayers\/\" title=\"Hamas recruitment college raked in M from US taxpayers\">taxpayer-backed handouts<\/a> to climate groups and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2439210\/top-biden-donors-treasury-appointment-raises-watchdog-concerns-special-interest-activists\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">possible<\/a> conflicts of interest involving federal officials.<\/p>\n<p>Obama&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/obamawhitehouse.archives.gov\/the-press-office\/statement-president-first-time-disclosure-policy-white-house-visitor-logs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">move<\/a> to release visitor logs was not immediate. His administration initially <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/id\/wbna34347510\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">faced<\/a> lawsuits from conservative and left-wing watchdog groups eager to glean information on government happenings. The administration later came under fire for White House visitor log disclosures being &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/publicintegrity.org\/politics\/white-house-visitor-logs-riddled-with-holes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">riddled with holes<\/a>.&rdquo; Since the early 2000s, transparency advocates have sought visitor logs, which the Clinton and Bush administrations declined to release.<\/p>\n<p>Nick Penniman, the founder and CEO of Issue One, a group that investigates federal influence, said transparency &ldquo;is a core ingredient of any advanced democracy.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We, the people, pay the salaries of those who work for our government, so we deserve to know who they&rsquo;re meeting with,&rdquo; Penniman told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. So, as President Trump prepares to return to Washington, employees of the West Wing should be transparent with taxpayers about who&rsquo;s potentially influencing policy decisions at the highest level.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Over the course of the Biden administration, the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> published various reports based on White House visitor logs that sought to pull back the curtain of federal influence. So were employees at foundations connected to the Rockefellers and other billionaire-backed groups pressuring the Biden administration to adopt left-leaning policies. Reported members of a covert Iranian government-controlled influence network also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/foreign-policy\/2965899\/iranian-influence-network-biden-white-house-visits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">often took trips<\/a> to the White House for meetings with senior U.S. officials, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/jeffrey-epstein-repeatedly-visited-clinton-white-house-brought-numerous-women-with-him-report\/\" title=\"Jeffrey Epstein Repeatedly Visited Clinton White House, Brought Numerous Women With Him: Report\">visitor logs show<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In July, as pressure built for Biden to drop out of the 2024 race over health concerns, the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3072637\/parkinsons-disease-expert-who-visited-white-house-doubles-as-biden-donor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">reported<\/a> that a Parkinson&rsquo;s disease expert who met with Biden&rsquo;s physician doubled as a donor to Biden&rsquo;s campaign. The report prompted Jason Miller, a senior adviser to Trump, to <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JasonMiller\/status\/1810441943056576581\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">declare<\/a> on X, &ldquo;It&rsquo;s all a cover up!!!&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>To Craig Holman, a progressive ethics expert at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citizen.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Public Citizen<\/a> think tank, White House visitor log disclosures are critical to understanding &ldquo;influence peddling in the executive branch.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;White House visitor log disclosures let the press and public know who is talking to the administration staff and when &mdash; whether or not they are registered lobbyists,&rdquo; Holman told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. &ldquo;The visitor logs let us know the CEOs of which companies or other special interests are being entertained by White House staff or even the president. It allows the press and the public to connect the dots between White House policies and special interests that the Lobbying Disclosure Act alone cannot provide.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Lobbying records filed with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/congress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Congress<\/a> are also critical for understanding special interests, but the documents are often barebones, leaving much to be desired as far as providing information, Holman added.
