Matt\u2064 Gaetz (R-FL). Sean Casten (D-IL) and Rep. Steve Cohen (R-TN) filed the two resolutions Wednesday evening shortly after the Ethics Committee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3235948\/house-ethics-committee-doesnt-release-gaetz-report-two-hour-meeting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">failed to come to a consensus<\/a> on whether to publish the findings of its yearslong investigation. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/rep-roy-democrats-wont-negotiate-on-h-r-1\/\" title=\"Rep. Roy: Democrats won\u2019t negotiate on H.R.1\">committee met<\/a> for more than two hours behind closed doors to deliberate but no decision was made, according to committee Chairman Michael Guest (R-MS).<\/p>\n<p>But before that decision was announced, Casten threatened he would take action even if the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-democrat-files-motion-to-force-vote-on-releasing-gaetz-ethics-report-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"House Democrat files motion to force vote on releasing Gaetz ethics report - Washington Examiner\">panel didn&#038;rsquo<\/a>;t &mdash; putting Republicans on the clock to bring the motion to the floor. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The allegations against Matt Gaetz are serious,&rdquo; Casten said in a statement. &ldquo;They are credible. The House Ethics Committee has spent years conducting a thorough investigation to get to the bottom of it. This information must be made available for the Senate to provide its constitutionally required advice and consent.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Cohen, who also introduced <a href=\"https:\/\/cohen.house.gov\/media-center\/press-releases\/congressman-cohen-says-ethics-report-matt-gaetz-should-be-released\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"his motion as privileged\">his motion as privileged<\/a>, spoke on the House floor while introducing his motion to say he hopes the Ethics Committee chooses to release the report.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;As I understand it, the report would be eye-opening and extremely damaging, and it should be released to the American public. They have a right to see it,&rdquo; Cohen said.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Filing the motion as a privileged resolution forces a vote on the matter within two legislative days, meaning lawmakers may not consider the matter until they return after Thanksgiving. Casten&rsquo;s threat comes just one day after he led 97 House Democrats&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3234893\/democrats-letter-house-ethics-committee-release-gaetz-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in a letter<\/a>&nbsp;demanding the report&rsquo;s release.<\/p>\n<p>GOP leaders could try to shoot down the measure by introducing a motion to table, dismissing it altogether. But if that fails, it will be voted on by the entire House and only four Republicans would need to join all Democrats in supporting the measure.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Marcus Molinaro (R-NY) told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> that he would vote to table the motion.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I would vote to table it. I think, I mean, if you could bottle gossip, rumor in innuendo and sell it, we would have no national deficit,&rdquo; Molinaro said. &ldquo;I think that we should let the President make his appointment.
