The number compares to 29% of respondents who hold a favorable view of the Florida Republican and nearly 35% who are unsure about how they feel.<\/p>\n<p>The negative public perception of Gaetz comes as he faces a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3231421\/jim-jordan-gaetz-ethics-report-shouldnt-go-public\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">rough road<\/a> to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mitch-mcconnells-betrayal-hurts-the-nation-goodwin\/\" title=\"Mitch McConnell\u2019s betrayal hurts the nation\">senate confirmation<\/a> he will need in order to step into the coveted attorney general position in the incoming Trump administration.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">President-elect Donald Trump&rsquo;s nominee to be attorney general, former Rep. Scott Applewhite)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>He has spent the past week embroiled in conflict over a still-unreleased report from the House Ethics Committee. <\/p>\n<p>The committee was originally set to release its findings into allegations of Gaetz&rsquo;s sexual misconduct and illicit drug use last Friday. The ethics investigation was similar to a DOJ inquiry that the agency ultimately <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/672445\/doj-decides-not-to-charge-matt-gaetz-in-sex-trafficking-investigation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">closed<\/a> in February after concluding it had not found enough evidence to charge Gaetz with any crimes. After Gaetz <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3229634\/gaetz-resigns-house-ahead-attorney-general-confirmation-fight\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">resigned<\/a> his House seat in anticipation of becoming Trump&rsquo;s attorney general, the ethics report&rsquo;s release was called into question, as the committee no longer had jurisdiction over him.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The ethics committee is meeting Wednesday afternoon to discuss whether or not to release the report, the move coming as Washington lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3235929\/where-senators-stand-releasing-matt-gaetz-ethics-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">called<\/a> on members to do so swiftly.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Further allegations of Gaetz&rsquo;s sexual misconduct were<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3235205\/gaetz-investigation-documents-stolen-hacker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"> leaked<\/a> to the <em>New York Times<\/em> on Monday, causing additional drama in Washington, but Gaetz still has top Republicans <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/senate\/3236329\/vance-gaetz-soften-image-senate-ethics-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">on his side<\/a> as he pleads innocent to all charges. From House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) to Vice President-elect J.D. Vance, critical Trump allies are pressing the GOP to coalesce behind Gaetz&rsquo;s nomination.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>While the nationwide poll released Tuesday indicated, at best, lackluster enthusiasm for Gaetz, he enjoys high popularity in his former home district.
