Matt Gaetz, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-matt-gaetz-torches-biden-ag-judge-merchans-daughter-profiting-off-trump-prosecution\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Florida flamethrower<\/a> Trump has chosen to head the Justice Department.<\/p>\n<p>Goldberg &ldquo;abruptly&rdquo; stated that Hostin had a notice from the show&rsquo;s legal department to read on the air. But that isn&rsquo;t stopping many on the left and the right (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/matt-gaetz-cannot-be-allowed-to-become-attorney-general\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Review&rsquo;s Jeffrey Behar<\/a>, for instance) from using them as ammunition to attack the Gaetz nomination.<\/p>\n<p>Pronouncing Gaetz guilty of statutory rape, as Hostin effectively did on Tuesday, is a bridge too far, even for &ldquo;The View,&rdquo; or at least the show&rsquo;s attorneys.<\/p>\n<p>Hostin, according to her <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/ABCNews\/sunny-hostin-official-biography\/story?id=47924104\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ABC biography<\/a>, is a former federal prosecutor of child sex cases. (His own <a href=\"https:\/\/gaetz.house.gov\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">congressional biography<\/a>, for instance, contains barely a mention of actually practicing law.)<\/p>\n<p>But there&rsquo;s also no question that Trump knew Gaetz&rsquo;s strengths and weaknesses before announcing the nomination &mdash; and likely the main strength was Gaetz&rsquo;s evident willingness to take on the Washington power structure.<\/p>\n<p>The DOJ under Attorney General Merrick Garland has proven repeatedly over the Biden administration that it has devolved into a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/attorney-general-merrick-garland-lambasted-threatening-americans-criticism-biden-doj-must-stop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nakedly political outfit<\/a>. It&rsquo;s been dedicated to protecting its favorites (first son Hunter Biden, say) &mdash; and <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">attacking perceived enemies &#038;mdash<\/a>; such as Donald Trump, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/parents-group-speaks-reportedly-targeted-fbi-merrick-garland-terrorist-threats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">parents concerned<\/a> about their children&rsquo;s education, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/sen-josh-hawley-demands-ag-garland-answer-3-questions-swat-style-raid-arrest-pro-life-activist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pro-lifers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Compared to a gnawing rodent like Garland &mdash; a one-time <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/no-confirming-justice-election-doesnt-break-merrick-garland-precedent\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Supreme Court nominee<\/a>! &mdash; Gaetz, for all his flaws, would look like a combination of F. Lee Bailey and Atticus Finch.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats and their allies in the media understand that sex sells, and sexual charges are apparently the front they&rsquo;ve chosen to fight on when it comes to the Gaetz nomination.
