In a leadership vote that indicated some remnants of rationality within the party, Rep. Debbie Dingell from Michigan successfully defended her position against a challenge from progressive Rep. Jasmine Crockett of Texas for the chair of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee. Although the vote results are confidential, sources informed the Washington Examiner that Dingell secured 152 votes while Crockett received 59. It’s noteworthy that Crockett’s challenge attracted as much support as it did; according to a source present at the meeting, “Reps. Jimmy Panetta (D-CA), Gabe Vasquez (D-NM), and Gwen Moore (D-WI), along with Rep.-elect Kristen McDonald Rivet (D-MI), delivered nominating speeches for Dingell, whereas Crockett had no one else speaking on her behalf.” As reported by Axios, Crockett was notably the only insurgent candidate to confront a member of Democratic leadership during this election cycle.

The overwhelming outcome reflected what many House Democrats perceived as a hasty campaign by Crockett aimed at unseating Dingell, who has been firmly established in her role. She presented herself as an expert in new media capable of modernizing the party after its anticipated loss in 2024 elections. However, it’s crucial to clarify what she means by “expert in new media.” If you’re somewhat familiar with political events and recall seeing Crockett before, it’s likely from a May House Oversight Committee hearing that devolved into chaos between her and Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene over personal insults.

Crockett later trademarked one such insult directed at Greene while simultaneously accusing her of racism—a striking example of cognitive dissonance on display. This wasn’t an isolated incident; she also targeted GOP Rep. Nancy Mace during another hearing about Hunter Biden earlier this year with similar accusations regarding race.

Moreover, when discussing gang violence on MSNBC recently—acknowledging its reality—Crockett attributed it to “MAGA gangs” and white supremacists rather than illegal immigrants contributing positively to society.

Interestingly enough, Jussie Smollett is no longer incarcerated following his hate-crime hoax conviction; one might wonder where he currently works—perhaps even within Capitol Hill offices linked to certain Texas lawmakers? This raises questions about narrative similarities between them.

On one hand, it’s somewhat absurd for Democrats not to consider leadership changes after such significant electoral losses; on another hand, their limited options reflect deeper issues within their party’s direction post-defeat.

At least they have avoided handing communication responsibilities over to someone like Rep.
