Hochul \u200ccontends that the blame for the current issues lies with \u200dher\u2064 predecessor, former Governor \u2063Andrew Cuomo, who initiated the\u2063 plan \u2062in 2019 but failed to implement it before \u200bresigning in 2021\u2063 amid a sexual misconduct\u2062 scandal. Malliotakis and Gottheimer Announce a Bipartisan Caucus to Address Congestion Pricing Issue\">congestion pricing problem<\/a>: &lsquo;I have to clean up the mess&rsquo;<\/h1>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"tdb-title-line\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"tdb-block-inner td-fix-index\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"tdb-block-inner td-fix-index\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"tdb-block-inner td-fix-index\">\n<div id=\"Brid_1885861\" class=\"tpd-featured-video bridtv\"><\/div>\n<p>Gov. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/kathy-hochul\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Kathy Hochul (D-NY) <\/a>has been <span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">criticized by both sides of the aisle for her waffling on a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3230041\/kathy-hochul-revised-congestion-pricing-plan-start-january\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">congestion pricing<\/a>&nbsp;plan, b<\/span>ut she has&nbsp;said the attacks are unwarranted.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>Instead, the blame should be laid at the feet of her predecessor, former Gov. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/andrew-cuomo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Andrew Cuomo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hochul told a crowd at a Manhattan event that she inherited the congestion pricing problem from Cuomo and had to &ldquo;clean up the mess.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Cuomo signed the bill that would start the path to implementing congestion pricing in 2019 but never put the toll into place during his tenure as governor. His term ended after a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">sexual misconduct scandal forced<\/a> him out of office in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Hochul has frequently criticized the former governor. Before he resigned in 2021, she called his misconduct &ldquo;repulsive and unlawful &rdquo; and took a shot at him this year after a former aide was charged with working as an<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3143267\/hochul-condemns-former-aide-china\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"> undisclosed foreign agent<\/a> for China.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;She primarily worked for Andrew Cuomo for many more years,&rdquo; Hochul noted then. &ldquo;She was with me just a short time, about 15 months.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Her criticism of Cuomo likely comes with little consequence. The Democratic Party distanced itself from Cuomo after his sexual misconduct scandal forced him out of politics.<\/p>\n<p>Hochul explained that she was willing to take on the congestion pricing problem that Cuomo left her anyway. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I never gravitate toward the easy,&rdquo; she said. &ldquo;I gravitate toward the hard.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The New York governor recently announced that congestion pricing would go forward but with a $9 price tag for commuters instead of $15.
