A potential candidate, Mike Rogers, a former congressman and current Senate candidate from Michigan, has \u200dreportedly met with Trump\u2019s transition team regarding the FBI director position.<\/p>\n<p>Rogers has a history of supporting laws \u2064like the Patriot Act, which allowed for extensive surveillance by federal agencies, raising concerns among those hoping for reformation\u2063 of the FBI. Despite previously defending surveillance measures,\u2062 Rogers has recently \u2064hinted at\u200b the need for reform, though he hasn\u2019t called for\u2063 the law&#8217;s repeal. His past actions, including resisting a select committee investigation into \u200bthe Benghazi attack and \u200dpassing significant \u200cspending bills,\u200c reflect a pattern of\u200d aligning with establishment practices. Whether it&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/22\/fbi-knew-hunter-bidens-laptop-was-authentic-a-year-before-pressuring-big-tech-to-censor-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">interfering<\/a> in elections to help leftist candidates, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/11\/16\/doj-whistleblower-documents-suggest-merrick-garland-lied-about-the-targeting-of-parents-as-domestic-terrorists\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">targeting<\/a> parents at school board meetings, or <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/08\/11\/the-fbi-targeted-traditional-catholics-because-they-will-never-accept-the-lefts-pagan-morality\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">treating<\/a> Christians as &ldquo;domestic terrorists,&rdquo; the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/fbi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">list<\/a> of egregious abuses carried out by the agency is too numerous to count.  <\/p>\n<p>With Trump set to return to the White House this coming January, many Americans are hoping the soon-to-be 47th president will replace FBI Director <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/christopher-wray\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Christopher Wray<\/a> &mdash; who has presided over these scandals &mdash; with someone willing to gut the corruption that&rsquo;s plagued the agency for years. While no official nomination has been made, one potential candidate allegedly up for the job should cause major concern for those wishing for a complete overhaul of the agency.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, sources <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/mike-rogers-consideration-fbi-chief-after-meeting-mar-a-lago-trump-transition-team-sources-say\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reportedly<\/a> told Fox News that 2024 Michigan GOP Senate candidate and former Rep. Mike Rogers met with Trump&rsquo;s transition team at Mar-a-Lago on Thursday about &ldquo;potentially serving as FBI director in the former and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-should-prioritize-middle-class-tax-relief-over-loopholes-that-benefit-democrats-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Trump should prioritize middle class tax relief over loopholes that benefit Democrats - Washington Examiner\">future president&#038;rsquo<\/a>;s second administration.&rdquo; Rogers, who worked at the FBI for several years before serving in Congress (2001-2015), was previously under consideration for the position during Trump&rsquo;s first administration after the president fired then-Director <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/james-comey\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">James Comey<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The Michigan Republican also served as chair of the House Intelligence Committee from 2011-2015. <\/p>\n<p>While Rogers regularly <a href=\"https:\/\/rogersforsenate.com\/news\/op-ed-im-offering-a-different-approach-that-puts-america-first\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cast himself<\/a> as an &ldquo;America First&rdquo; candidate willing to buck the establishment during his failed Senate bid, the Michigan Republican has spent his entire political career empowering the very federal agencies being weaponized against the American people. <\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.md\/wAy5a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Detroit News<\/a>, Rogers assisted in writing (and <a href=\"https:\/\/gandernewsroom.com\/2023\/12\/07\/mike-rogers-changes-tune-on-patriot-act-amid-senate-bid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">voted for<\/a>) the Patriot Act, a law passed after the 9\/11 terrorist attacks that&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/09\/11\/was-9-11-the-beginning-of-the-end-of-the-american-empire\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">enabled<\/a> the federal government to conduct warrantless surveillance against unsuspecting Americans. Speaking in defense of the legislation in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/transcripts\/4754072?ft=nprml&amp;f=4754072\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2005 NPR interview<\/a>, the then-congressman claimed, &ldquo;No due process is subjugated in the Patriot Act, not one iota.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/gandernewsroom.com\/2023\/12\/07\/mike-rogers-changes-tune-on-patriot-act-amid-senate-bid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The &lsquo;Gander<\/a>, &ldquo;Rogers also has a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.livingstondaily.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2014\/12\/31\/rogers-security-nsa-phone-records\/21092851\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lengthy history of defending federal phone and internet surveillance<\/a>&nbsp;programs, and he also&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2011\/05\/gop-struggles-for-patriot-act-votes-054799\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lobbied for a long-term extension of the Patriot Act in 2011<\/a>.&rdquo; A <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligence.house.gov\/news\/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=247\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">press release<\/a> issued by the then-congressman&rsquo;s office indicated the extension <a href=\"https:\/\/intelligence.house.gov\/news\/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=247\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">involved<\/a> the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), which the feds later <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/04\/12\/house-speaker-kills-effort-to-stop-the-feds-from-spying-on-americans-without-warrant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">abused<\/a> to spy on Trump&rsquo;s 2016 presidential campaign. <\/p>\n<p>Rogers suddenly changed his tune on the Patriot Act after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.freep.com\/story\/news\/politics\/elections\/2023\/09\/06\/former-rep-mike-rogers-michigan-us-senate-race\/70765216007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">launching<\/a> his 2024 Senate campaign. As <a href=\"https:\/\/gandernewsroom.com\/2023\/12\/07\/mike-rogers-changes-tune-on-patriot-act-amid-senate-bid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">noted<\/a> by The &lsquo;Gander, in a <a href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/joe-donell\/mike-rogers-the-joe-pags-show-11282023\/s-X2YWqp6iJbl?si=0fc5cb88ea9d442dba90cff6398f08a1&amp;utm_source=clipboard&amp;utm_medium=text&amp;utm_campaign=social_sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">November 2023 interview<\/a>, the former congressman expressed support for revising the law, but stopped short of saying Congress should repeal it altogether. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I think you have to reform it. We need to make sure that you can go after foreigners. This is key,&rdquo; Rogers said. &ldquo;They keep stretching it. You have to put some boundaries back on it.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The Michigan Republican reportedly did not respond to the outlet&rsquo;s request for comment on what prompted him to supposedly change his views. <\/p>\n<p>Rogers&rsquo; record defending intel agencies&rsquo; surveillance mechanisms he helped enable is hardly the only area showcasing his affinity for protecting the status quo. <\/p>\n<p>In 2014, The left-wing Daily Beast <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20240313215629\/https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/new-benghazi-investigation-spooks-gop-leaders\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> that Rogers, then-head of the House Intel Committee, and the chairs of the House Armed Services and Government Reform Committees, &ldquo;all opposed the formation of a select committee&rdquo; to investigate the Obama administration&rsquo;s handling of the 2012 Benghazi terrorist attack. A House member allegedly told the outlet Rogers expressed worry the select committee &ldquo;could be a rabbit hole&rdquo; and warned members to &ldquo;not let this investigation get into conspiracy theories.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Rogers&rsquo; tenure as House Intelligence chair was met with controversy that same year, when Judicial Watch&rsquo;s Micah Morrison <a href=\"https:\/\/www.judicialwatch.org\/unraveling-benghazi-mike-rogers-part-problem\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> that the former FBI agent&rsquo;s wife Kristi worked at a military contracting firm during his time leading the committee. While Morrison acknowledged &ldquo;[t]here is no evidence of wrong-doing by Rep. Rogers&rdquo; or the firm, he noted that &ldquo;the outlines of the story are more suggestive of &lsquo;right-doing,&rsquo; Washington-style: an insider&rsquo;s game of covert operations and corporate profits played out in the gray areas of law and policy.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Rogers&rsquo; stint leading the committee has earned him praise from all the wrong media figures, specifically The Washington Post&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/david-ignatius\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">David Ignatius<\/a>. In November 2022, the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/09\/29\/exclusive-kash-patel-a-trump-staffer-who-exposed-the-russia-hoax-aiming-new-fire-at-deep-state\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Russia collusion hoaxer<\/a> penned a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2022\/11\/22\/mike-rogers-2024-gop-presidential-field\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">column<\/a> praising Rogers for working across the aisle with Democrats during his time as House Intel chair. He further hyped Rogers as a potential 2024 GOP presidential nominee, claiming he is &ldquo;a snapshot of what [the GOP] looked like before the Donald Trump circus arrived.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>Rogers&rsquo; congressional <a href=\"https:\/\/heritageaction.com\/scorecard\/members\/R000572\/113\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">voting record<\/a> also displays an unwillingness to fight the establishment. <\/p>\n<p>In late 2014, the then-congressman helped pass a $1.1 trillion, 1,603-page omnibus spending package, which Heritage Action <a href=\"https:\/\/heritageaction.com\/scorecard\/votes\/h563-2014\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">noted<\/a> did &ldquo;nothing to stop President Barack Obama&rsquo;s unilateral, unlawful actions which <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">include granting quasi-legal status<\/a> to those who are in the country illegally.&rdquo; Earlier that year, he also <a href=\"https:\/\/heritageaction.com\/scorecard\/votes\/h400-2014\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">opposed<\/a> legislation returning the Energy Department&rsquo;s budget to 2008 levels, <a href=\"https:\/\/heritageaction.com\/scorecard\/votes\/h414-2014\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">supported<\/a> a bill bailing out the federal Highway Trust Fund, and <a href=\"https:\/\/heritageaction.com\/scorecard\/votes\/h201-2014\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">backed<\/a> a measure establishing a commission to study the erection of a &ldquo;feminist history museum,&rdquo; according to Heritage Action. <\/p>\n<p>The former FBI agent further <a href=\"https:\/\/heritageaction.com\/scorecard\/votes\/h283-2013\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">opposed<\/a> additional work requirements for food stamp recipients and Republican <a href=\"https:\/\/heritageaction.com\/scorecard\/votes\/h175-2014\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">efforts<\/a> to balance the federal budget. <\/p>\n<p>How is someone with that kind of track record supposed to give Americans confidence he&rsquo;ll be the firebrand needed to bulldoze corruption at the FBI? The answer, of course, is he doesn&rsquo;t. <\/p>\n<p>Rogers is a typical D.C. institutionalist who has spent his entire political career funding and safeguarding the very agencies being weaponized to target citizens who refuse to bow to Democrats&rsquo; Marxist agenda. His priority has never been, nor will be, the interests of everyday Americans who continue to suffer as a result of his disastrous decision-making. <\/p>\n<p>The last time Trump hired a federal careerist to lead the FBI, the agency&rsquo;s authoritarian tactics got exponentially worse, and he and Americans suffered as a result.
