Kennedy Jr.\u200d to head the Department \u200bof Health and Human Services, which oversees\u2062 major federal health agencies \u2064like the CDC, NIH, and FDA. While critics question Kennedy&#8217;s fitness for\u2064 the role, he has outlined three urgent goals aimed at improving \u2064these agencies: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/medical-conference-cancels-keynote-over-professors-opposition-to-child-masking-covid-vaccines\/\" title=\"Medical conference cancels keynote due to professor&#039;s stance against child masking and COVID vaccines.\">promoting evidence-based medicine<\/a>, addressing\u2063 corruption and\u200d conflicts\u2063 of interest within federal health agencies, and tackling the\u200d chronic \u200bdisease epidemic affecting children.<\/p>\n<p>During the COVID-19 pandemic, public health principles \u2064were often disregarded, leading to\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/blinken-backs-israel-at-unsc-but-says-humanitarian-pauses-must-be-considered-to-protect-civilians\/\" title=\"Blinken supports Israel at UNSC, emphasizes need for &#039;humanitarian pauses&#039; to safeguard civilians.\">significant collateral damage<\/a>, whereas Sweden managed to\u200c maintain lower mortality rates.\u200d The handling of vaccine mandates\u2064 during this period has also \u2062drawn criticism, as it allegedly prioritized certain populations\u2062 while neglecting others who were more \u200dvulnerable. \u2063Many who\u2062 compromised \u2064scientific integrity during the pandemic are \u2063now opposing Kennedy&#8217;s push for a\u2063 return to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/leo-terrell-lauds-morgan-freeman-for-saying-no-to-defund-the-police\/\" title=\"Leo Terrell Lauds Morgan Freeman For Saying No To \u2018Defund The Police\u2019\">evidence-based practices<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The article\u2063 further discusses the problematic relationship between health agencies and pharmaceutical \u200bcompanies, calling for independence to restore trust and lower healthcare costs. The <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">ongoing health \u2062issues facing\u2063 children\u2014including chronic \u2064illnesses<\/a>,\u200b mental health problems,\u2063 and obesity\u2014demand urgent \u2062action,\u200d reminiscent of past public health\u200c initiatives like Nixon&#8217;s war on cancer. Kennedy&#8217;s concerns regarding vaccine effects and the\u2064 need for \u200bcomprehensive \u200dresearch into health factors \u200dare emphasized. Immediate actions may include improving nutrition, promoting physical activity, and addressing \u2063the impacts of broken families on children&#8217;s \u200dhealth and development.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Some in the scientific community are shocked and dismayed. President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, which includes the Centers for Disease Control, National Institutes of Health, Food and Drug Administration, and other federal health agencies. Are their concerns warranted? Or, are they hypocritical?<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mahanow.org\/three-things-video\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">three stated goals<\/a> for the federal health agencies are (i) evidence-based medicine, (ii) clean up corruption and conflicts of interest, and (iii) end the chronic disease epidemic, with special emphasis on our children and concrete results within two years. These are not only laudable goals, but urgent ones.<\/p>\n<p>During the Covid pandemic, evidence-based medicine and the fundamental principles of public health were thrown out the window. With the health agencies&rsquo; singular focus on Covid, school closures and other lockdown measures generated enormous collateral damage that is increasingly obvious. The exception was Sweden, which had the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cato.org\/policy-analysis\/sweden-during-pandemic#excess-deaths\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lowest excess mortality<\/a> during the outbreak.<\/p>\n<p>Federal agencies questioned and ignored 2,500 years of scientific knowledge about immunity when they <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-zealand-pm-jacinda-ardern-to-skip-lockdown-for-harvard-address\/\" title=\"New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern to Skip Lockdown for Harvard Address\">enforced vaccine mandates<\/a> on students and working-age adults with superior infection-acquired immunity while my 87-year-old neighbor and other older people around the world were still unvaccinated. Covid vaccines saved the lives of many older people, but Covid vaccine mandates killed older people by directing vaccines to those not needing them. That was both unscientific and unethical.<\/p>\n<p>It is noteworthy that many who abandoned evidence-based medicine during the pandemic are now criticizing Kennedy, who wants the CDC, NIH, and FDA to return to evidence-based medicine.<\/p>\n<p>Scientists are tasked with both developing and evaluating drugs and vaccines, and it is important to separate these two important roles. Scientists evaluating drug and vaccine safety should not take money from pharmaceutical companies.<\/p>\n<p>There is also a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fiercepharma.com\/pharma\/cue-revolving-door-criticism-former-fda-commish-gottlieb-joins-pfizer-s-board\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">revolving door<\/a> between federal health agencies and the pharmaceutical industry, at both the higher and lower levels. It will be politically difficult, but if Kennedy can make scientists and federal health agencies more independent of the pharmaceutical industry, that would improve health, lower costs and increase trust. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With school closures, we utterly failed children during the pandemic. How can we make it up to them? In the 1970s, President Nixon declared war on cancer. With <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/healthyschools\/chronicconditions.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">more than 40 percent<\/a> of school-age children suffering from a chronic illness, it is now time to declare war on health problems affecting our children and adolescents, such as asthma, allergy, autism, anorexia, ADHD, addiction, abuse, diabetes, obesity, malnutrition, and mental health, with an emphasis on prevention.<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy is especially concerned about vaccines, and we need to more thoroughly investigate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ted.com\/talks\/christine_stabell_benn_how_vaccines_train_the_immune_system_in_ways_no_one_expected?subtitle=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">non-specific effects of vaccines<\/a>, which can be either positive or negative, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nejm.org\/doi\/full\/10.1056\/NEJMp2402379\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">potential adverse reactions<\/a>. It is equally important to investigate other potential environmental and genetic risk factors.<\/p>\n<p>Such etiological research will unfortunately take decades rather than years, but there are three important areas we can take immediate action on with the new administration&rsquo;s two-year goal in mind. The first is nutrition, simultaneously combatting unhealthy foods, obesity, and food insecurity. The second is physical exercise. This is an easy one, since a group of little kids will automatically run around like crazy if we just let them.<\/p>\n<p>The third problem is broken homes after divorce. We know from multiple epidemiological studies that children have <a href=\"https:\/\/ifstudies.org\/blog\/10-surprising-findings-on-shared-parenting-after-divorce-or-separation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">much better social, educational, physical, and mental health<\/a> when they live equal 50\/50 time with both parents, but that is not yet the norm. What stands in the way are family courts and <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/12\/02\/how-illogical-child-support-rules-can-force-kids-into-poverty\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mathematically flawed child support guidelines<\/a> that sometimes starve children.<\/p>\n<p>Our pandemic response was the biggest public health mistake in history. Kennedy now has his work cut out for him, but so do all of us scientists.<\/p>\n<p>We must return to evidence-based medicine, remove conflicts of interest, and promote open scientific discourse without <a href=\"https:\/\/nclalegal.org\/case\/state-of-missouri-ex-rel-schmitt-et-al-v-biden-et-al\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">censorship<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/fauci-collins-emails-great-barrington-declaration-covid-pandemic-lockdown-11640129116\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">slander<\/a>. We must help children who got the short end of the stick during the lockdowns.<\/p>\n<p>This is all needed to restore integrity and trust in science.
