Kennedy International Airport to Atlanta in September 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Less than six months later, Ibarra allegedly hunted down and killed Riley in Athens on Feb. 22.<\/p>\n<p>Last week during the trial, prosecutors claimed Riley &ldquo;fought for her life&rdquo; for 18 minutes, during which he allegedly smashed her head with a rock and asphyxiated her when she attempted to fight him off in a sexual assault. Prosecutors showed the exact timing of her struggle with Ibarra and her death through digital forensics on her phone and smartwatch, which tracked her heart rate reaching a peak of 170 beats per minute and dramatically dropping to zero.<\/p>\n<p>Flores Bello was questioned about video footage identifying Ibarra throwing away a jacket in a dumpster that she had often seen him wearing. Prosecutors claimed that Riley&rsquo;s blood was on the jacket, and she agreed with them that it seemed &ldquo;strange&rdquo; that he would throw the jacket out in February.<\/p>\n<p>An FBI agent testified on Monday that cellphone data showed Ibarra very close to Riley&rsquo;s cellphone at the time of the killing.<\/p>\n<p>University of Georgia Police Cpl. Rafael Sayan had been involved in questioning the Ibarra brothers and noticed the accused killer as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmz.com\/2024\/11\/18\/laken-riley-murder-trial-rescue-attempt-police-audio-fresh-scratches-vid-jose-ibarra\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"having multiple cuts on his arms and wrist\">having multiple cuts on his arms and wrist<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors also played<a href=\"https:\/\/www.atlantanewsfirst.com\/2024\/11\/18\/what-happened-with-girl-jail-call-played-jose-ibarra-trial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\" a recording of a jail cell phone call\"> a recording of a jail phone call<\/a> between Ibarra and his wife, Layling Franco, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=XgA1BrxJpnA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"repeatedly pressed\">repeatedly pressed<\/a> him: &ldquo;What happened with the girl?&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><\/strong><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ibarra&rsquo;s defense attorneys are saying the evidence was &ldquo;circumstantial&rdquo; and that the evidence linking Ibarra to the crime &ldquo;is lacking.&rdquo; He has been charged with murder, aggravated assault, battery, kidnapping, and concealing the death of another. He also was charged with a misdemeanor interfering with a 911 call.<\/p>\n<p>Flores Bello is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-mdga\/pr\/venezuelan-citizen-pleads-guilty-possessing-fraudulent-green-card\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"facing her own legal troubles\">facing her own legal troubles<\/a> with Ibarra&rsquo;s younger brother, Argenis Ibarra.
