Not only that, but its take fell by over 50 percent in its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/weekend\/2024W45\/?ref_=bo_wey_table_4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">second weekend<\/a> of release, meaning it&rsquo;s probably not going to be a sleeper hit that sticks around theaters for a while.<\/p>\n<p>The embarrassing first-weekend haul is less than 1 percent of Hanks&rsquo; highest-grossing film &mdash; &ldquo;The Da Vinci Code,&rdquo; at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/list\/ls076742190\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$758 million<\/a> &mdash; or even the Hanks\/Wright\/Zemeckis &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/actor-roles-forrest-gump-sweet-home-alabama-dead-87\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Forrest Gump<\/a>,&rdquo; which took home $677 million.<\/p>\n<p>That being said, while &ldquo;Here&rdquo; is a rather impressive flop, it has company in the disappointment department.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/2024-box-office-domestic-lower-previous-year-break-trend\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ScreenRant<\/a> noted, after the modest comeback of 2023 &mdash; fueled by the &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/numbers-barbenheimer-lifts-summer-box-office-not-enough-save-movie-industry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Barbenheimer<\/a>&rdquo; craze and &ldquo;The Super Mario Bros. Movie&rdquo; &mdash; Hollywood is again facing a slump in 2024, with only two films topping the $1 billion box office mark worldwide: &ldquo;Inside Out 2&rdquo; with $1.697 billion and &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/deadpool-wolverine-plot-follows-tired-modern-trend-turning-popular-male-heroes-washed-failures\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Deadpool and Wolverine<\/a>&rdquo; with $1.337 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, even the end of COVID hysteria wasn&rsquo;t enough to save Hollywood from wokeness, streaming, recycling intellectual property or trite filmmaking. Who knew?
