Mike Huckabee, who President-elect Donald Trump has named to be his ambassador to Israel.<\/p>\n<p>After his selection was announced, Huckabee spoke to Israel&rsquo;s Army Radio about his nomination, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/trump-ambassador-pick-huckabee-says-administration-could-back-west-bank-annexation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Times of Israel<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>During the interview, he was asked if the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/zg-israel-blames-rising-west-bank-casualties-on-palestinian-terror-during-un-security-council\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">West Bank<\/a> &mdash; land formerly claimed by Jordan that Israel won during the 1967 Six-Day War &mdash; could be annexed by Israel.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Well, of course,&rdquo; Huckabee said. &ldquo;I won&rsquo;t make the policy. I will carry out the policy of the president.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Citing Trump&rsquo;s recognition of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/americans-injured-jerusalem-rocked-twin-bombings-different-seen-recent-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jerusalem<\/a> as Israel&rsquo;s capital and his action to move America&rsquo;s embassy to Israel there, Huckabee noted no other president had been as helpful as Trump &nbsp;&ldquo;in securing an understanding of the sovereignty of Israel.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p> <script type=\"text\/javascript\"> \t\t\tif ( getCookie( \"ff_subbed\" ) ) { \t\t\t\tdocument.getElementById(\"stnvideo\").remove() \t\t\t} \t\t<\/script> <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;No one has done more than President Trump, and I fully expect that will continue,&rdquo; Huckabee said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/mike-huckabee-woman-survived-maoist-china-comments-america-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Huckabee<\/a> would not rule out a role for Israel in rebuilding whatever emerges from the ruins of Gaza after the war against Hamas ends.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Well, I haven&rsquo;t had time to process that,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;I don&rsquo;t want to make any comments about policy because those won&rsquo;t be mine to make.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-calls-bidens-latest-israel-statement-craziest-thing-ever-heard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joe Biden<\/a> has opposed annexing the West Bank and has endorsed the creation of a Palestinian state at some future date.<\/p>\n<p>Huckabee said, he was &ldquo;a frequent visitor to Judea and Samaria,&rdquo; using the Biblical term for the West Bank.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I also very much believe that the people of Israel deserve a secure and safe country, and anything I can do that will help accommodate, that is going to be a great privilege for me,&rdquo; he said.<\/p>\n<p>During a 2015 visit to Israel, Huckabee noted, &ldquo;It&rsquo;s interesting to me that often our government has put more pressure on the Israeli governments to <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">stop building bedrooms<\/a> in their own neighborhoods than they put on Iran to stop building bombs,&rdquo; according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/huckabee-israels-claim-to-judea-and-samaria-stronger-than-us-tie-to-manhattan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Times of Israel<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Huckabee noted that Israel&rsquo;s claim to the land goes back centuries.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;If I came and said, &lsquo;We need to end our occupation of Manhattan,&rsquo; I&rsquo;m pretty sure that most Americans would find that laughable,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;The Israelis have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-demand-parler-reveal-its-investors-and-creditors\/\" title=\"Democrats Demand Parler Reveal Its Investors And Creditors\">strong connection<\/a> to Judea and Samaria.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Huckabee has been a strong backer of Israel.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;There&rsquo;s really no such thing as a Palestinian,&rdquo; he said in 2008, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/magazine\/2010\/06\/28\/prodigal-son\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New Yorker<\/a>. &ldquo;That&rsquo;s been a political tool to try to force land away from Israel.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Huckabee also said labels are often used to obscure the truth.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;There is no such thing as the West Bank,&rdquo; Huckabee said in a 2017 visit to Israel, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/11\/14\/us\/politics\/israel-trump-administration.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The New York Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;There is is no such thing as settlements &mdash; they&rsquo;re communities, they&rsquo;re neighborhoods, they&rsquo;re cities.
