Despite initial rumors of potential challengers within the GOP, \u200dno one officially opposed him, allowing Johnson \u200bto run unopposed. His position seems to have been bolstered by President-elect Donald\u2063 Trump&#8217;s endorsement during a recent meeting with House Republicans. Johnson secured the nomination through a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">unanimous consent voice \u200dvote<\/a>, but he \u200dwill \u2062need to wait until January 3rd for \u200cthe full House to vote on his \u200bposition. Any opposition was also quelled after President-elect Donald Trump visited with the House GOP on Thursday and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3228316\/trump-house-gop-leadership-elections-johnson-washington\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"endorsed Johnson\">endorsed Johnson<\/a> for another term, two lawmakers inside the meeting told the <em>Washington Examiner.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Johnson won the nomination through a unanimous consent voice vote and ran unopposed.<\/p>\n<p>However, he will not secure the position until Jan. 3, when the entire House will hold its speaker election. That election will come when Republicans will once again be managing a slim majority, so Johnson will need to keep his conference in line to avoid a similar fate to former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), who didn&rsquo;t secure the gavel until his 15th round of voting and after making several concessions to those in his right flank.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Anna Paulina&nbsp;Luna&nbsp;(R-FL) told pool reporters that while no one in the room objected to Johnson during the vote for speaker, his potential detractors see this closed-door election as a soft vote for him, with real negotiations to take place between now and&nbsp;Jan. 3.<\/p>\n<p>The Freedom Caucus, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/freedom-caucus-leader-bob-goods-fate-to-be-decided-as-recount-begins-for-virginia-seat-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Freedom Caucus leader Bob Good\u2019s fate to be decided as recount begins for Virginia seat - Washington Examiner\">hard-line conservative caucus<\/a> that has frustrated a litany of House speakers,  met with Johnson ahead of leadership elections. There are negotiations underway to ensure Johnson wins on the House floor with his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-backs-off-15-minimum-wage-as-virus-relief-plan-takes-shape\/\" title=\"Biden Backs Off  Minimum Wage As Virus Relief Plan Takes Shape\">razor-thin majority<\/a>. One of the discussions underway is raising the level to nine for the motion to vacate the speaker, which currently allows just one member to force a leadership vote.  <\/p>\n<p>House Republicans also elected their slate of top GOP leaders in the lower chamber for the next Congress.
