It highlights the criticism directed towards ⁢the Democratic response to various presidential elections and juxtaposes that with accusations leveled against Republicans for questioning the legitimacy of ‍the 2020 election results. The discussion emphasizes Senator Bob‌ Casey Jr.’s refusal to concede defeat in Pennsylvania’s Senate race after being ⁤overtaken by Republican Dave McCormick, illustrating a perceived double standard in the political narrative around election denial. Casey’s stance is seen as contradicting the ‍accusations typically directed at Republicans, as he ‌enlists the help of a contentious legal figure, Marc Elias, to challenge ⁤the election results. Nosiree. He’s brought in Democratic dirty-work lawyer Marc Elias, a man whose legal scruples make Lionel Hutz look like Marcus Tulius Cicero.

If you’ve heard the name before, Elias was the guy behind the effort to waylay Republican candidates under the Disqualification Clause of the 14th Amendment, arguing that the Capitol incursion constituted an “insurrection” and thus rendered them ineligible to seek office.

That clause, it’s worth noting, was crafted to stop unreconstructed Confederate officials from holding office in the aftermath of the Civil War, but Elias is not the type to let facts get in his way. Thankfully, he had no choice when the Supreme Court got in his way, instead.

Those of you with longer memories also might remember he was the general counsel for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign and was part of funding the infamous Steele dossier.

Now, Elias is focusing on “stealing” the election in Pennsylvania, instead, legal scholar Jonathan Turley wrote in an Op-Ed Tuesday.

“What is most striking is the strategy of Elias,” wrote Turley, noting that Elias’ strategy of relying on provisional ballots didn’t hold water.

“The state has roughly 87,000 provisional ballots to count, but those ballots were generally challenged for defects or suspected invalidity,” he said.

“Even if they were to count, it is unlikely that they will break so overwhelmingly for Casey to overturn the result. Indeed, only about 30,000 were coming from Casey strongholds in Philadelphia and Allegheny County.”

However, Elias’ endgame is to get the race within .5 percent, which would trigger a recount under Pennsylvania law. That’s why, as Turley said, he’s trying to “find 40,000 votes.”

The only good news is that Democrats don’t seem to be buying the feasibility of this effort; even Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, soon to become Senate minority leader, relented and allowed McCormick to take place in Senate orientation, a tacit sign that he accepts the results, however grudgingly.

For election deniers Bob Casey and Marc Elias, however, the dirty work goes on, the dubious cause endures, the hopeless hope still lives, and the fever dream shall never die.

       * Name

       *

      * Message

* All fields are required.

Success!

       function firefly_sc() { if( typeof window.captchaPublicKey==typeof undefined ){ console.error('window.captchaPublicKey is not defined'); } grecaptcha.execute( window.captchaPublicKey, { action: 'submit_correction' } ).then( function( token ) { var opts={ action: 'firefly_sc_submit', name: document.querySelector( '.entry-submit-correction [name="name"]' ).value, : document.querySelector( '.entry-submit-correction [name=""]' ).value, message: document.querySelector( '.entry-submit-correction [name="message"]' ).value, post_id: firefly_post_id, cap_token: token } var inputs=[ 'name', '', 'message' ]; for( var i=0; i <inputs.length; i++ ) if( ! While Democrats protested the presidential election outcomes in 2000, 2004, and 2016—both of which were not particularly close—their claims lacked solid evidence, such as allegations about Diebold voting machines in 2004 and Russian interference in 2016. However, if you suggest that the unique circumstances of the 2020 election—affected by COVID-19, questionable changes to election laws, and unprecedented mail-in voting—were suspicious, you’re labeled a “denier.” This time around, Kamala Harris lost significantly enough that Democratic commentators could only blame American voters for not recognizing her supposed brilliance. Blame was directed at various demographics for failing to support her enthusiastically. There were some tight races though; one notable example is Pennsylvania where Republican Dave McCormick was declared the winner over incumbent Democrat Bob Casey Jr., holding a lead of over 34,000 votes as of Tuesday.

McCormick’s win secured a comfortable majority for the GOP with 53 Senate seats. Yet Casey has adopted what many have claimed is typically a Republican stance: he’s now an election denier. In a video message released on Tuesday, this three-term senator refused to concede defeat and stated that the electoral process “will play out.” He emphasized that nearly seven million people voted in what he described as a free and fair election.

Casey isn’t just waiting for recounts; he’s enlisted Marc Elias—a lawyer known for his controversial tactics—to assist him. Elias previously attempted to disqualify Republican candidates under the Disqualification Clause of the 14th Amendment by labeling their actions during January’s Capitol events as an “insurrection.” Although this clause was originally intended to prevent former Confederate officials from holding office post-Civil War, Elias often disregards historical context.

Elias is now focused on contesting Pennsylvania’s results instead. Legal expert Jonathan Turley pointed out flaws in Elias’ strategy regarding provisional ballots—which number around 87,000 but are often challenged due to defects or invalidity—and noted it’s unlikely they would favor Casey enough to change the outcome since only about half come from areas where he has strong support.

Elias aims to narrow McCormick’s lead within half a percent so that it triggers an automatic recount under state law; hence his efforts are geared towards finding additional votes. Interestingly enough though, even prominent Democrats like Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer seem skeptical about this approach—as evidenced by allowing McCormick participation in Senate orientation—indicating acceptance of results despite reluctance.

For Casey and Elias—their pursuit continues amidst ongoing doubts about its viability while their hopes remain unyielding despite mounting challenges

[33651
44939,3685,43484,35743,19503
post-2368446","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-the-western-journal","tag-bob-casey-jr","tag-democrats","tag-election-denial","tag-political-drama","tag-post-election
["GET
