The Florida Constitution <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Article_XI,_Florida_Constitution#Section_5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">requires<\/a> proposed constitutional <a href=\"https:\/\/dos.fl.gov\/elections\/laws-rules\/constitutional-amendmentsinitiatives\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">amendments<\/a> to be approved by at least 60 percent of eligible voters to go into effect.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-5c89ab3aec62a30788a2db2a41f13313 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-5c89ab3aec62a30788a2db2a41f13313\"><\/div>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"> <span class=\"uPs3SAzpYMiebQghj4KEIOFm9aLHJqRTV1ZW8t0vwrCdUDXNyBkcxf\"><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">With polls now closed in Florida &mdash; <\/p>\n<p>Amendment 3 has failed.<\/p>\n<p>Amendment 4 has failed.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Ron DeSantis (@GovRonDeSantis) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovRonDeSantis\/status\/1853966461896630649?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 6, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/span> <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>As The Federalist&rsquo;s Jordan Boyd previously <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/10\/02\/unpopular-abortion-through-birth-could-become-legal-in-these-10-states-unless-voters-act-now\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>, Amendment 4 sought to &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/initiativepetitions.elections.myflorida.com\/InitiativeForms\/Fulltext\/Fulltext_2307_EN.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">effectively enshrine<\/a> abortion through birth in the Sunshine State&rsquo;s constitution and eliminate safeguards designed to protect women and children.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The amendment itself is laced with vague terminology like &lsquo;viability,&rsquo; which can easily be exploited to ensure abortion at any point in gestation, and includes language that gets rid of parental consent,&rdquo; Boyd wrote. &ldquo;It also includes provisions for medical professionals to deem abortion at any stage of pregnancy necessary for a woman&rsquo;s &ldquo;health,&rdquo; physical, emotional, or mental.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The initiative was also marred by concerns of <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/04\/02\/florida-supreme-court-rules-to-allow-deceptive-abortion-amendment-on-november-ballot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">deception<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/sbaprolife.org\/newsroom\/press-releases\/fl-pro-abortion-activists-arrested-for-phony-petition-signatures\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">signature fraud<\/a> in the months leading up to Election Day.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Florida_Amendment_4,_Right_to_Abortion_Initiative_(2024)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ballotpedia<\/a>, the pro-abortion sponsor of the measure dumped more than $118 million into the campaign backing the amendment&rsquo;s passage. Meanwhile, organizations opposing the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">proposal raised roughly  million<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-2a03c295138940d04570e18c6c93ec7b fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-2a03c295138940d04570e18c6c93ec7b\"><\/div>\n<p>Gov. Ron DeSantis campaigned against Amendment 4 throughout the 2024 cycle. During an <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CaseyDeSantis\/status\/1852357438265000285\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">interview<\/a> with conservative commentator Ben Shapiro last week, the Florida Republican noted how the &ldquo;very opaque&rdquo; initiative ultimately includes &ldquo;no limits on when an abortion can be performed,&rdquo; effectively allowing the murder of an unborn child &ldquo;for no reason at all.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;If this passes in Florida, we will be the epicenter of abortion nationwide, and we would have one of the most radical pro-abortion regimes, not just in the United States, but in the world,&rdquo; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The governor also campaigned against <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Florida_Amendment_3,_Marijuana_Legalization_Initiative_(2024)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Amendment 3<\/a>, which sought to legalize marijuana use throughout the Sunshine State. In a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/GovRonDeSantis\/status\/1853509609912242206\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recent tweet<\/a>, DeSantis wrote, &ldquo;Amendment 3 is bankrolled by one Big Weed company that has buried special privileges for itself in the text of the amendment.
