a White House official told the <em>Washington Examiner.<\/em> &ldquo;The president will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/desantis-informs-florida-residents-on-preparations-for-tropical-storm-idalia-watch\/\" title=\"DeSantis updates Florida on Tropical Storm Idalia: WATCH\">receive regular updates<\/a> on the state of races across the country.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Harris is hosting a watch party at her alma mater, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/live-blog-posts\/harris-will-be-howard-university-election-night\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Howard University\">Howard University<\/a>, which is located less than 2 miles from the executive mansion, but her boss will not be among the attendees.<\/p>\n<p>The relationship between Biden and Harris has appeared strained throughout the election, with her seeking to distance herself from the administration by promising to &ldquo;turn the page&rdquo; and usher in a &ldquo;new way forward.&rdquo; Another slogan, &ldquo;We are not going back,&rdquo; further cements the image she wants to cast as an agent of change.<\/p>\n<p>Yet she still owes her status as vice president to Biden, who chose her for the position in 2020 and who endorsed her to be the Democratic nominee immediately after dropping out.<\/p>\n<p>Biden has done some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3212590\/biden-philadelphia-tout-record-causing-headaches-harris\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"limited campaigning\">limited campaigning<\/a> for Harris this fall, an effort that has produced a number of awkward moments and gaffes. <\/p>\n<p>The president <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3152871\/joe-biden-trump-hat-moment-about-unity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"donned a Donald Trump hat\">donned a Trump hat<\/a> in September and overshadowed what was supposed to be Harris&rsquo;s big closing argument speech last week by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3214283\/trump-rallygoers-don-garbage-bags-safety-vests\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"calling Trump supporters garbage\">calling Trump supporters &ldquo;garbage&rdquo;<\/a> just before it began.<\/p>\n<p>Neither Harris nor former President Donald Trump is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3217423\/why-harris-trump-arent-making-public-appearances-election-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"doing much campaigning\">doing much campaigning<\/a> on Tuesday. He has said he plans to vote in person on Election Day.
