Meanwhile, figures like former President ‍Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk⁢ appeal to many union voters, despite their mixed records with labor; their popularity seems to defy‌ traditional ‌Democratic ‌support.

Voters have reported⁤ feeling drawn to Trump and Musk for ‍various reasons,‌ including personal⁣ financial considerations and a sense of disenchantment ⁤with Harris and President‍ Biden. Some⁣ voters express ⁢disappointment with Biden and Harris and believe⁢ that they ‌do not adequately support unions or the middle class. Polls show a competitive race, with Trump slightly ⁣leading ⁤Harris in⁤ Pennsylvania, suggesting that the Democratic candidates may need to ‍bolster their ‍appeal among union⁤ households to secure victory.

Democrats, increasingly aware of ⁢their challenges with union‍ voters, are attempting to strengthen their support among college-educated ‌individuals and ‍women. Harris has proposed actions that could help bridge this gap, such as eliminating unnecessary‍ college degree⁢ requirements for federal jobs. The coming election results will reveal the effectiveness of ⁤these strategies and the shifting dynamics of voter support in historically⁤ Democratic regions.

Democratic union voters frustrated that Harris’s pro-labor plan isn’t cutting through

PHILADELPHIA — Pennsylvania Democrats are exasperated with Vice President Kamala Harris‘s problems appealing to blue-collar union workers, with the lack of support undermining her electoral prospects in the Keystone State on Tuesday.

Former President Donald Trump and Tesla, SpaceX, and X billionaire businessman Elon Musk have been crisscrossing Pennsylvania, the commonwealth that could decide next week’s election, and other battleground states, both of whom have mixed records regarding unions but also enormous appeal among the crucial voting bloc.

At the same time, for example, Harris was unable to secure the endorsements of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, the first time that the union had not publicly backed a candidate since 1996, and the International Association of Fire Fighters a few weeks later.

Meg Young, 58, a retired Bryn Mawr engineer, who was at President Joe Biden‘s Friday union event in Philadelphia —
