It came from the Voter Participation Center &mdash; a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/voter-participation-center\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">shadowy<\/a> left-wing group &mdash; and contained threatening language.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Remember, who you vote for is private, but whether or not you voted is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/after-commuting-his-sentence-ca-gov-newsom-reverses-parole-for-convicted-double-murderer\/\" title=\"After Commuting His Sentence, CA Gov. Newsom Reverses Parole For Convicted Double Murderer\">public record<\/a>,&rdquo; wrote VPC President Tom Lopach in the letter. &ldquo;We&rsquo;re sending this mailing to you and your neighbors to share who does and does not vote in an effort to promote election participation.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-3c7f11e72cb9489d5ce5cd58f32df6b3 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-3c7f11e72cb9489d5ce5cd58f32df6b3\"><\/div>\n<p>The mailer was addressed to my wife. It included a chart with her name, our Michigan address, and her supposed voting record from 2016 to 2022. It placed her information alongside what it claims are voting records of our &ldquo;neighbors,&rdquo; though we live nowhere near the streets listed.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We will be reviewing these records after the election to determine whether or not you joined your neighbors in voting,&rdquo; Lopach wrote. &ldquo;While we have hidden the name and street number of your neighbors to protect their privacy, these are their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/leftist-groups-turn-to-threats-to-get-out-the-vote\/\" title=\"Leftist Groups Turn To Threats To Get Out The Vote\">true voting records<\/a>.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>The mailer falsely claimed my wife did not vote in 2020. The outside of the mailer bears a return address in Lansing on Allegan Street, the same street where the secretary of state&rsquo;s office is located, in the Charles E. Chamberlain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gsa.gov\/about-us\/gsa-regions\/region-5-great-lakes\/buildings-and-facilities\/michigan\/lansing-chamberlain-fb-po\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Federal Building<\/a>. From the large VPC seal on the mailer to the Lansing address, it looks almost intentionally official.<\/p>\n<p>The VPC and its &ldquo;sister&rdquo; group, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/center-for-voter-information\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Center for Voter Information<\/a>, have been sending out similarly misleading and threatening mailers across America, as The Federalist <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/11\/01\/leftist-groups-turn-to-threats-to-get-out-the-vote\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In Maryland, the state attorney general issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marylandattorneygeneral.gov\/News%20Documents\/10312024_Cease%20and%20Desist_MDOAG_Signed.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cease and desist<\/a> order on Thursday against both groups for intimidating voters with these mailers.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-efb27b709abd116b1a36fc83d1efe366 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-efb27b709abd116b1a36fc83d1efe366\"><\/div>\n<p>&ldquo;Let me be clear: these unnerving letters are unacceptable, and Maryland voters should know that their decision to vote this Election Day is entirely theirs to make,&rdquo; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marylandattorneygeneral.gov\/press\/2024\/103124b.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a> Attorney General Anthony Brown.<\/p>\n<p>The group had sent unsolicited absentee ballot applications to <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Project_Veritas\/status\/1836093888072999263\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">thousands<\/a> of voters across America as of September, Project Veritas reported. That month, Rep. Claudia Tenney, R-N.Y., demanded that the IRS <a href=\"https:\/\/tenney.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/congresswoman-tenney-demands-irs-investigate-voter-participation-center\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">investigate<\/a> the group &ldquo;for potentially violating federal tax rules for tax-exempt&rdquo; groups.<\/p>\n<p>In September, The Washington Free Beacon reported that the VPC was <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/09\/04\/nonpartisan-voting-groups-ads-dodge-people-who-like-nascar-and-duck-dynasty\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">targeting<\/a> its Facebook voter registration ads to likely liberal audiences, calibrating ads to avoid people with more typically conservative interests, like Duck Dynasty, John Wayne, and NASCAR.<\/p>\n<p>Oregon officials warned residents in August to be careful about mailers from the VPC and CVI, as they planned to send <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oregonlive.com\/politics\/2024\/08\/county-elections-official-tells-oregonians-to-carefully-vet-incoming-wave-of-voter-registration-mailers-from-national-groups.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">20,000<\/a> mailers to &ldquo;five of Oregon&rsquo;s largest counties,&rdquo; The Oregonian reported.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-3e19e889c984b22f7c374e8085a07d4f fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-3e19e889c984b22f7c374e8085a07d4f\"><\/div>\n<p>The VPC is a nonprofit that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/voter-participation-center\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">launched<\/a> in 2003 as &ldquo;Women&rsquo;s Voices Women Vote,&rdquo; but it changed its name in 2011, according to InfluenceWatch. John Podesta, Hillary Clinton&rsquo;s 2016 campaign chairman, helped <a href=\"https:\/\/www.judicialwatch.org\/jw-exposes-voter-participation-center-scandal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">found<\/a> the group.
