However, while the campaign has adopted trendy \u200cand meme-based tactics aimed at younger voters, critics argue\u200b this \u200capproach fails \u2063to address serious issues impacting their lives, \u2063such \u2063as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/poll-about-7-in-10-americans-say-biden-economy-is-terrible\/\" title=\"Poll: About 7 in 10 Americans Say Biden Economy Is Terrible\">rising grocery prices<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/turkeys-lira-sinks-again-as-erdogan-cites-islamic-sharia-law-to-defend-economic-management\/\" title=\"Turkey\u2019s Lira Sinks Again as Erdogan Cites Islamic Sharia Law to Defend Economic Management\">high interest rates<\/a> on mortgages, increasing college costs, and\u200d youth unemployment\u200c rates. As \u2063Harris attempts to connect with \u200d&#8221;chronically\u200c online&#8221; young\u2063 voters through \u2063popular memes and \u200dTikTok trends, many believe this distraction could mask her lack of accountability and a substantive policy agenda.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">notable viral\u200d moment occurred<\/a> when singer Charli XCX tweeted about Harris,\u200d which significantly boosted campaign\u2063 engagement but \u2062raised questions about\u200b the\u200c depth \u200cof the campaign&#8217;s commitment to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/young-people-want-biden-to-face-primary-as-approval-rating-continues-to-drop-survey\/\" title=\"Survey: Young people call for Biden to face primary as approval rating drops.\">addressing young voters&#8217; concerns<\/a>. Polls\u200c show\u2063 that young \u2064voters prioritize issues such as inflation, healthcare, jobs, government\u200b spending, and corruption\u2014concerns that align closely with those of older voters. Despite these pressing matters,\u200b Harris&#8217; campaign seems preoccupied with \u2063superficial social media\u200b engagement rather than presenting concrete\u2062 solutions, \u200bleading to frustrations over the absence of serious discussions on policy.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>While young people historically have low voter turnout, Vice President Kamala Harris&rsquo; campaign has taken to social media to try to bridge the gap &mdash; but young voters shouldn&rsquo;t be so quick to applaud her get-out-the-vote tactics.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>What began with Harris hopping on the &ldquo;brat summer&rdquo; bandwagon has expanded to a full-fledged (and cringe) meme crusade, with the campaign trying to paper over Harris&rsquo; lack of accountability and abysmal record by following the trends of &ldquo;chronically online&rdquo; voters.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Many failures of the Biden-Harris administration directly affect young voters, making the transition from adolescent to adult harder than ever. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2024\/09\/02\/food-inflation-grocery-prices-states-cities\/75017935007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">price of groceries<\/a> continues to rise, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2024\/10\/18\/g-s1-28576\/mortgage-rates-housing-market-home-buying-selling\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sky-high interest rates<\/a> make it nearly impossible for young people to own a home, all with the <a href=\"https:\/\/educationdata.org\/average-cost-of-college\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cost of a college education<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/news.release\/pdf\/youth.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">youth unemployment rates<\/a> simultaneously increasing.&nbsp;But thanks to memes, young voters could be duped into casting a Harris-Walz vote.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The July 21 Charli XCX statement on X, &ldquo;kamala IS brat,&rdquo; was the post heard &rsquo;round the world, with 56,000 retweets and 333,000 likes to date. The attention sparked Harris&rsquo; &ldquo;commitment to the bit,&rdquo; as young people would say, with her campaign focusing on all vibes and no substance.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>While this strategy may garner likes and reposts, the point is simply to wrap her crumbling campaign and embarrassing record as vice president in a pretty bow for the country&rsquo;s freshest voting class. She and her team hope young people are so absorbed in their phones that they don&rsquo;t think to ask the burning question: What will this candidate do to improve my life? Posting funny memes doesn&rsquo;t count.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/100-days-kamala-harris-has-yet-do-formal-press-conference-since-emerging-democratic-nominee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">More than 100 days<\/a> have passed without Harris doing a formal press conference, but Kamala HQ incessantly posts Gen Z-oriented TikToks. The campaign never misses the opportunity to use the day&rsquo;s new viral trend or sound to speak young people&rsquo;s language rather than speaking about the country&rsquo;s most pressing issues.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Young voters&rsquo; concerns match those of the rest of the country.&nbsp;&ldquo;Across all findings, the top-of-mind issues for young voters are not so different from the overall electorate and, at first glance, may even make more sense for voters three times their age,&rdquo; according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/blueprint2024.com\/polling\/youth-poll-may\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Blueprint poll<\/a> of voters age 18-30 released in May. &ldquo;The top issues among young voters are inflation (73%), healthcare (71%), jobs and the economy (70%), government spending and the federal deficit (63%), corruption (63%), and Social Security and Medicare (62%).&rdquo;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>These are real issues. Meanwhile, Kamala HQ is busy posting pointless TikToks, like this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@kamalahq\/video\/7430145828695575851?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">video<\/a> featuring someone making tacos, with the caption, &ldquo;Kamala Harris when it comes to making an economic plan that will uplift the middle class.&rdquo; The actual economic plan that young voters are wondering about, however, is nowhere to be found. So much for &ldquo;providing context,&rdquo; as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@kamalahq?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">account&rsquo;s<\/a> bio claims it does. The content of vice presidential candidate and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is no better. Here&rsquo;s a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@kamalahq\/video\/7430588307215568171?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">video<\/a> posted just this week of Walz playing video games. Priorities.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Young people, whether they go to college or head straight into the workforce, should be wary of the Harris strategy. Almost 60 percent of Americans aged 18-34 are on TikTok, according to a Pew Research Center <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/internet\/2024\/02\/22\/how-u-s-adults-use-tiktok\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">study<\/a>. Harris&rsquo; team is banking on these voters being simple-minded enough to support a candidate for hiring a few media-literate interns rather than addressing the broken policies of the Biden-Harris administration weighing on all Americans.<\/p>\n<p>Polls reinforce that the country&rsquo;s youngest adults are affected by the same issues as the country&rsquo;s oldest. Frankly, it&rsquo;s offensive to young Americans like me, who share in the real concerns of the rest of the country, to be courted with &ldquo;You think you just fell out of a coconut tree?&rdquo; videos rather than a coherent plan for border security.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Harris&rsquo; media strategy is attempting <em>not<\/em> to exist in the context of all that came before it. Don&rsquo;t take the bait.
