(AP Photo\/Alex Brandon)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>At a virtual event on Monday, Kennedy offered his own version of Trump&rsquo;s statement, &ldquo;The key that President Trump has promised me is control of the public health agencies, which are HHS and its sub-agencies, CDC, FDA, NIH, and a few others &hellip; and then also the USDA, which, you know, is key to making America healthy,&rdquo; Kennedy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/10\/29\/politics\/rfk-trump-control-hhs-usda\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It&rsquo;s unknown whether Kennedy or Trump were referring to the HHS secretary position, but Senate confirmation would be required to appoint Kennedy to a Cabinet position. Steven Chung, Trump campaign communications director, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/live-updates\/2024\/10\/30\/2024-elections-live-coverage-updates-analysis\/robert-f-kennedy-jr-trump-administration-00186227#:~:text=Steven%20Cheung%2C%20Trump%20campaign%20communications%20director%2C%20said%20that%20%E2%80%9Cformal%20discussions%20of%20who%20will%20serve%E2%80%9D%20in%20a%20Trump%20administration%20are%20%E2%80%9Cpremature.%E2%80%9D%20Cheung%20didn%E2%80%99t%20deny%20Trump%20promised%20Kennedy%20control.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">said<\/a> &ldquo;formal discussions of who will serve&rdquo; in a Trump administration are &ldquo;premature,&rdquo; but reportedly did not deny Trump&rsquo;s promise to Kennedy.<\/p>\n<p>Stefanie Spear, a spokeswoman for Kennedy, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/10\/30\/health\/rfk-jr-health-policy\/index.html#:~:text=%E2%80%9CHe%20has%20also%20asked%20him%20to%20address%20the%20chronic%20disease%20epidemic%2C%20which%20is%20affecting%20more%20than%2050%25%20of%20Americans%20and%20is%20having%20a%20devastating%20impact%20on%20the%20nation%E2%80%99s%20health%2C%20economy%20and%20global%20security%2C%E2%80%9D%20said%20the%20spokesperson%2C%20Stefanie%20Spear.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">said<\/a>, &ldquo;He [Trump] has asked him to address the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dnc-ramps-up-efforts-to-kill-rfk-jr-s-bid-with-billboards-in-michigan\/\" title=\"DNC intensifies campaign against RFK Jr. in Michigan with billboards\">chronic disease epidemic<\/a>, which is affecting more than 50% of Americans and is having a devastating impact on the nation&rsquo;s health, economy and global security.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/3138594\/voters-mostly-unchanged-rfk-jr-endorsement-trump-poll\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">endorsed<\/a> Trump this summer after calling off his independent presidential bid. A platform Kennedy was largely running on was &ldquo;Make America Healthy Again,&rdquo; but Kennedy&rsquo;s past of vaccine skepticism and other controversial opinions could pose hurdles to gaining Senate confirmation. <\/p>\n<p>Kennedy has recently focused on chronic disease issues like obesity, diabetes, kidney disease, autoimmune conditions, cancer, and addiction. He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/opinion\/trump-can-make-america-healthy-again-rfk-jr-reforms-chronic-disease-crisis-a9b4b8c0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"wrote\">wrote<\/a> in the <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em>, &ldquo;Americans are becoming sicker, beset by illnesses that our medical system isn&rsquo;t addressing effectively.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy has also made <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2024-election\/rfk-jr-trump-health-secretary-anti-vaccine-rcna167588#:~:text=%E2%80%9CI%E2%80%99m%20going%20to%20say%20to%20NIH%20scientists%2C%20God%20bless%20you%20all%2C%E2%80%9D%20Kennedy%20said%20at%20the%20time.%20%E2%80%9CThank%20you%20for%20public%20service.%20We%E2%80%99re%20going%20to%20give%20infectious%20disease%20a%20break%20for%20about%20eight%20years.%E2%80%9D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">comments<\/a> about ending NIH infectious disease research, and <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RobertKennedyJr\/status\/1849925311586238737\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">posted<\/a> about gutting the FDA. For pharmaceuticals, he&rsquo;s said he wants to match American drug prices to Europe&rsquo;s and review direct-to-consumer pharmaceutical advertising guidelines on TV.<\/p>\n<p>However, despite having some ideas that have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/donald-trump-has-plan-make-americas-children-healthy-again-its-good-one-opinion-1957026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">endorsed<\/a> by former Trump CDC director Robert Redfield, there are concerns that appointing Kennedy would paint the administration as anti-science due to his anti-vaccine ideals.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Jerome Adams, the surgeon general under Trump&rsquo;s presidency, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/10\/30\/health\/rfk-jr-health-policy\/index.html#:~:text=Adams%20said%20that%20Kennedy%20could%20%E2%80%9Cspread%20misinformation%20and%20take%20us%20back%20to%20the%20dark%20ages%20in%20regards%20to%20vaccine%2Dpreventable%20diseases%E2%80%9D%20but%20that%20he%20hoped%20he%20would%20focus%20instead%20on%20%E2%80%9Cpromoting%20overall%20well%2Dbeing.%E2%80%9D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">said<\/a> Kennedy could &ldquo;spread misinformation and take us back to the dark ages in regards to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tn-vaccine-chief-cried-victim-over-dog-muzzle-it-was-purchased-with-a-credit-card-in-her-name\/\" title=\"TN Vaccine Chief Cried Victim Over Dog Muzzle. It Was Purchased With A Credit Card In Her Name. \u00a0\">vaccine-preventable diseases<\/a>,&rdquo; but Adams hoped Kennedy would focus on &ldquo;promoting overall well-being&rdquo; instead.<\/p>\n<p>One policy of Kennedy&rsquo;s that is finding agreement across some health experts is his food policy. While he has slated <a href=\"https:\/\/rumble.com\/v5fy7bv-american-health-and-nutrition-a-second-opinion.html?e9s=src_v1_ucp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">goals<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">address diet-related chronic illness<\/a>, removing toxic chemicals out of the food supply, and eliminating conflicts of interest between industry and government, there are still doubts on whether they can actually be accomplished.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Michael Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota, has served in a health policy role in every presidential administration since Ronald Reagan&rsquo;s.
