The decision sparked outrage among\u2064 left-wing \u200dreaders\u2064 and columnists, with many expressing their disappointment \u2063on social media and \u200darticulating the belief that the Post \u200dshould endorse Harris in light of the perceived threat posed \u200bby Trump. \u2064A group \u200dof 17 \u200ccolumnists issued a statement \u2063urging the editors to reaffirm their commitment to democratic values by endorsing Harris. This was amidst a \u2062backdrop of\u200c tensions, particularly after another publication, the Los Angeles Times, also opted not to endorse any candidate, leading to \u2063the resignation\u2064 of its \u2064editorial editor. The Washington Post&#8217;s union guild expressed concern\u2062 over the decision, reflecting a broader discontent among staff regarding the paper&#8217;s direction.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Leftists suffered a meltdown Friday after the editors of the Washington Post announced they would no longer endorse in presidential races starting with this year&rsquo;s contest between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The Washington Post will not be making an endorsement of a presidential candidate in this election. Nor in any future presidential election,&rdquo; read a note from the Post&rsquo;s publisher and editor-in-chief, William Lewis. &ldquo;We are returning to our roots of not <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/patrick-mahomes-lauded-for-very-mature-answer-to-reporters-trump-question-in-wake-of-dueling-endorsements\/\" title=\"Patrick Mahomes Lauded for &#039;Very Mature&#039; Answer to Reporter&#039;s Trump Question in Wake of Dueling Endorsements\">endorsing presidential candidates<\/a>.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The decision to refrain from making a presidential endorsement this year means Harris will be the first Democrat on the ticket in more than 30 years not to receive the explicit support of the D.C. paper&rsquo;s editorial board. DeAngelis, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/these-five-democrats-hate-school-choice-unless-its-for-themselves\/\" title=\"These Five Democrats Hate School Choice \u2013 Unless It\u2019s for Themselves\">school choice evangelist<\/a> (@DeAngelisCorey) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DeAngelisCorey\/status\/1849855476323975232?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 25, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span> <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The Washington Post&rsquo;s announcement Friday was met with outrage among left-wing readers and columnists, including several who write for the paper. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Jesus christ,&rdquo; <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/KarenAttiah\/status\/1849845088181944590\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote <\/a>Post columnist Karen Attiah on X just minutes after her paper&rsquo;s announcement.  <\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>In another <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/KarenAttiah\/status\/1850015001249026335\">post <\/a>to X, Attiah shared a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2024\/10\/25\/post-columnist-no-endorsement-2024-trump-harris\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">statement <\/a>she signed with more than a dozen other columnists for the Washington Post demanding the editors endorse Vice President Harris. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This is a moment for the institution to be making clear its commitment to democratic values, the rule of law and international alliances, and the threat that Donald Trump poses to them &mdash; the precise points The Post made in endorsing Trump&rsquo;s opponents in 2016 and 2020,&rdquo; wrote the 17 opinion columnists. &ldquo;An independent newspaper might someday choose to back away from making presidential endorsements. But this isn&rsquo;t the right moment, when one candidate is advocating positions that directly threaten freedom of the press and the values of the Constitution.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The joint statement was signed by <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/max-boot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Max Boot<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/jennifer-rubin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jennifer Rubin<\/a>, the latter of whom had just cheered the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cjr.org\/business_of_news\/los-angeles-times-editorials-editor-resigns-after-owner-blocks-presidential-endorsement.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">resignation<\/a> of a Los Angeles Times editor two days prior when the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">west coast publication similarly declined<\/a> to endorse in this year&rsquo;s presidential contest.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I am resigning because I want to make it clear that I am not okay with us being silent,&rdquo; said LA Times editorials editor Mariel Garza in an interview with the Columbia Journalism Review. &ldquo;In dangerous times, honest people need to stand up. This is how I&rsquo;m standing up.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Bravo. All respect,&rdquo; Rubin wrote on X in respond to Garza. &ldquo;and where are the rest of them?&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Federalist Senior Editor Mark Hemingway <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Heminator\/status\/1849860436218593695\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote, <\/a>&ldquo;now that [Washington Post] is not endorsing, resigning from the paper seems like the honorable thing for [Rubin] to do.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<div lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>Yesterday <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JRubinBlogger?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@JRubinBlogger<\/a> applauded an LAT Times editor who resigned when the paper refused to endorse.
