The group, which is known for demanding transparency from the Supreme Court and often criticizes \u200cRepublican-appointed justices, overlooked \u2064at least \u2062two of Sotomayor&#8217;s speaking engagements in Vienna, \u200bAustria, and Zurich, Switzerland,\u200c this past July. <\/p>\n<p>Following an inquiry from *Washington Examiner*, Fix the Court acknowledged the omissions and updated \u2064its\u2062 website to \u200cinclude these appearances. But the &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/646141\/supreme-court-transparency-group-hammered-by-judiciary-gop-over-irs-donor-blunder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">transparency<\/a>&rdquo; watchdog, records show, does not appear to be properly cataloguing travel for all Supreme Court justices.<\/p>\n<p>According to a <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> review of public records, Sotomayor traveled in July to Vienna, Austria. The justice, social media <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo.php?fbid=885904426903059&amp;id=100064505301849&amp;set=a.287982306695277\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">posts<\/a> by the U.S. Embassy in Austria and other sources show, met with Austrian Minister of Justice Alma Zadi&#263; and a cohort of students. <\/p>\n<p>In July, Sotomayor was also welcomed at the University of Zurich in Switzerland for a panel conversation with a professor and a journalist, according to an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eiz.uzh.ch\/EIZ\/web\/eiz\/event\/JusticeSotomayor.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">event<\/a> announcement. Giving an introduction at the event was Suzan G. LeVine, a former U.S. ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein, who also did a brief <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/suzilevine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">stint<\/a> in 2021 as President Joe Biden&rsquo;s assistant secretary for employment and training.<\/p>\n<p>However, <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20241002192349\/https:\/\/fixthecourt.com\/2024\/10\/scotus2024events\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">until<\/a> Thursday, Fix the Court did not include these two appearances by Sotomayor on its website under a <a href=\"https:\/\/fixthecourt.com\/2024\/10\/scotus2024events\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">section<\/a> called &ldquo;The Justices&rsquo; 2024 Events and Appearances with Links to Videos When Recorded.&rdquo; That omission was corrected following the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> reaching out for comment about the matter to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2201699\/supreme-court-transparency-charity-director-panics-over-irs-donor-leak-i-just-fed-up\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Gabe Roth<\/a>, who runs Fix the Court and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/gabe-roth-2455264\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">used<\/a> to work for the influential Democratic political consulting firm SKDK.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Thanks for the tip &mdash; will be sure to add!&rdquo; Roth wrote over email, adding that Supreme Court justices &ldquo;are prolific travelers&rdquo; and that Fix the Court is &ldquo;always happy to update the page when we learn of a new trip or event.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Republicans see the situation differently. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Gabe Roth and his Fix The Court outfit are partisan hacks funded by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/perspective-stop-whining-plebs-the-dc-elite-are-also-suffering\/\" title=\"Perspective: Stop Whining, Plebs, the DC \u00c9lite Are Also Suffering\">left-wing billionaires<\/a> who want to tear down the Supreme Court&rsquo;s conservative majority,&rdquo; attorney Mark Paoletta, a close friend of Thomas and his wife, Virginia Thomas, told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Paoletta, who was general counsel for the powerful Office of Management and Budget under former President Donald Trump, said it&rsquo;s not surprising Roth would overlook Sotomayor&rsquo;s travel. The conservative lawyer wrote an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/the-fix-is-in-with-the-latest-attack-on-clarence-thomas-scotus-c64453aa?st=0gmnqgus2hurke0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">op-ed<\/a> in the <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> in June that said Fix the Court inflated values for gifts to Thomas to push conflict of interest concerns.<\/p>\n<p>Fix the Court, Paoletta also said, has ignored investigating a $1 million prize that, according to a <em>Washington Free Beacon<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/courts\/ruth-bader-ginsburgs-mysterious-1-million-prize\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">report<\/a>, the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg accepted from a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-associated-press-once-viewed-as-neutral-works-with-pro-left-foundations\/\" title=\"AP, once seen as impartial, collaborates with left-leaning foundations.\">left-leaning foundation<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Carrie Severino, a former law clerk to Thomas who runs the conservative Judicial Crisis Network watchdog group, agreed that the travel disclosure omission has the appearance of political bias.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Of course, there is no judicial ethics issue with Justice Sotomayor traveling to Austria and Switzerland,&rdquo; Severino said. &ldquo;What is suspect, however, is how Fix the Court follows every move the Republican-appointed justices make but somehow misses this major international trip. Perhaps we shouldn&rsquo;t be surprised, though, given the organization&rsquo;s history of connections to the Arabella Advisors network.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The omission is &ldquo;sloppy,&rdquo; according to Severino, who added that Fix the Court &ldquo;is as meticulous about statistical details as it is about filing its tax returns.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>Last year, the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2570217\/supreme-court-ethics-group-likely-failed-to-disclose-lobbying-experts-say\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">found<\/a> that Fix the Court failed to disclose lobbying the government, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2454740\/supreme-court-ethics-activist-admits-lobbying-disclosure-failure-i-have-been-corrected\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">prompting Roth to apologize<\/a> on a podcast and update the watchdog&rsquo;s financial disclosures. <\/p>\n<p>Fix the Court is a former project of the New Venture Fund, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2201699\/supreme-court-transparency-charity-director-panics-over-irs-donor-leak-i-just-fed-up\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">a key nonprofit group<\/a> in the Arabella Advisors network that boosts left-wing causes. Launched in 2014, Fix the Court slams the Supreme Court for its &ldquo;disdain for openness and transparency.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>At the same time, Fix the Court has been unhappy with the public having more information about its own finances. In May of last year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2201699\/supreme-court-transparency-charity-director-panics-over-irs-donor-leak-i-just-fed-up\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Roth unwittingly leaked<\/a> Fix the Court&rsquo;s donors to the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> over email and went into panic mode over the mistake.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;As you can see if you&rsquo;ve reviewed the forms, I&rsquo;m not a good fundraiser,&rdquo; Roth previously said. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I&rsquo;m not a good CPA. I&rsquo;m a klutz. Schedule B is not something that is sent out, right? It&rsquo;s not made public. Like, if you&rsquo;re donating to a 501(c)(3), the IRS gets to see who donates to you, but the general public doesn&rsquo;t,&rdquo; Roth said. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><strong><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I mean, basically, I&rsquo;ve tried to donate money; I have failed,&rdquo; Roth said. &ldquo;I tried to raise money; I have failed. I have only two foundations that give me money, and if their names become public, they&rsquo;re never going to talk to me again, and Fix the Court is over.
