monitors.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, House Oversight Chairman James Comer of Kentucky sent a letter to NewsGuard executives &ldquo;to seek additional documents and communications&rdquo; from the censorship group related to &ldquo;present contracts with or grants administered by federal government agencies or any other government entity, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/supreme-court-agrees-to-hear-dispute-over-trumps-former-dc-hotel\/\" title=\"Supreme Court to Hear Case on Trump&#039;s Former DC Hotel.\">including foreign governments<\/a>.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1d850d3529a88ef0b1a54d6cac5edc43 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1d850d3529a88ef0b1a54d6cac5edc43\"><\/div>\n<p>NewsGuard is one of the more <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">popular web browser extensions&#038;nbsp<\/a>;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/01\/27\/left-wing-misinformation-group-will-help-teachers-union-indoctrinate-students-with-corrupt-media-propaganda\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">deployed<\/a>&nbsp;in K-12 classrooms across the country with the support of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/03\/13\/newsguard-claims-not-to-be-government-funded-but-a-750k-grant-suggests-otherwise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-bunch-of-babies-undercutting-us-law-order\/\" title=\"Trump: &#039;Bunch of Babies&#039; Undercutting US Law, Order\">federal taxpayer funding<\/a><\/a>. The service rates the credibility of online websites and redirects users to news organizations approved as regime friendly. Such ratings have been weaponized to censor non-leftist content with misinformation labels for factual reporting on stories such as <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/03\/18\/left-wing-rating-agency-grades-media-that-botched-hunter-biden-story-with-100-percent-credibility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hunter Biden&rsquo;s laptop<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>[RELATED:[RELATED:<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/11\/15\/meet-newsguard-the-government-backed-censorship-tool-billed-as-an-arbiter-of-truth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Meet NewsGuard: The Government-Backed Censorship Tool Billed As An Arbiter Of Truth<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The protection of First Amendment rights of American citizens is paramount and attempts by government actors to infringe on those rights is dangerous and misguided,&rdquo; Comer wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The House Oversight chief cited a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/10\/02\/opinion\/john-kerry-says-first-amendment-is-the-enemy-as-elites-try-to-stamp-out-free-speech\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">statement<\/a> from President Joe Biden&rsquo;s former climate adviser, John Kerry, who complained about &ldquo;disinformation&rdquo; at a speech to the World Economic Forum.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-0653dc0200611d5f3b7422b88abb5e5e fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-0653dc0200611d5f3b7422b88abb5e5e\"><\/div>\n<p>&ldquo;Our First Amendment,&rdquo; Kerry said, &ldquo;stands as a major block to be able to just, you know, hammer it out of existence.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The remark, said Comer, &ldquo;indicates that tendencies toward censorship and speech restrictions and government entanglement with censorship may have support from senior government officials.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>This week&rsquo;s letter is a follow-up to a June congressional investigation seeking documents related to NewsGuard&rsquo;s government contracts.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Our investigation has particularly focused on abuse of government authority to censor American citizens under the guise of protecting them from so-called misinformation,&rdquo; Comer said Friday. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-0af8164254d19e4c919d7436611b024b fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-0af8164254d19e4c919d7436611b024b\"><\/div>\n<p>NewsGuard&rsquo;s partial compliance with lawmakers&rsquo; initial records request, however, failed to render a complete picture of the company&rsquo;s engagement in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-desperate-to-implement-censorship-regime-disregard-free-speech-in-weaponization-hearing\/\" title=\"Democrats Desperate To Implement Censorship Regime Disregard Free Speech In Weaponization Hearing\">censorship industrial complex<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;These wide-ranging connections with various government agencies are taking place as the government is rapidly expanding into the censorship sphere,&rdquo; said Comer. &ldquo;For example, one search of government grants and contracts from 2016 through 2023 revealed that there were 538 separate grants and 36 different government contracts specifically to address &lsquo;misinformation&rsquo; and &lsquo;disinformation.&#8217;&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Comer gave NewsGuard a deadline of Nov. 8 to comply with lawmakers&rsquo; latest request.<\/p>\n<p>In July, Florida&rsquo;s chief financial officer <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/07\/31\/florida-cfo-bans-left-wing-propagandist-newsguard-from-receiving-state-financial-contracts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">banned<\/a> NewsGuard and other supposed disinformation services from receiving contracts from his own state agency.
