This \u2064figure represents a decrease of approximately 10% compared to the same period in the 2020 election, when 910,802 voters participated. The decline in voting is \u2064attributed\u2063 to\u200b the increased use \u200cof absentee ballots during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, with only 51,665 \u200dabsentee\u2063 ballots submitted this year compared to 144,558 in 2020. More voters used absentee ballots in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>This year, 51,665 voters submitted an absentee ballot compared to 144,558 in 2020. The number of in-person voting is higher than four years ago, with 768,910 visiting a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/virginia-dem-caught-hours-before-election-driving-on-suspended-license-to-steal-campaign-signs\/\" title=\"Virginia Dem Caught Hours Before Election Driving on Suspended License To Steal Campaign Signs\">local polling place<\/a> in 2024 and 766,244 doing so in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sos-prod.tnsosgovfiles.com\/s3fs-public\/document\/20241105EarlyAbsenteeCompareDay5.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">early numbers<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;are still higher than 2016 figures when just 609,021 voted early in the first five days.<\/p>\n<p>Dekalb County, located in the central part of the state, has the highest increase in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/oops-media-warned-of-jim-crow-2-0-now-black-turnout-is-soaring\/\" title=\"OOPS: Media Warned of \u2018Jim Crow 2.0,\u2019 Now Black Turnout Is Soaring\">early voter turnout<\/a> when compared to 2020 at 31.5%. Shelby County is reporting a decrease in early voting from the same time period of 37.32%.<\/p>\n<p>Statewide, Tennesseans are deciding if they will back U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn for a second term. She is being challenged by state Rep. Gloria Johnson, D-Knoxville. Pamela Moses, who is running as an independent, received 5% of the vote.<\/p>\n<p>A&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.beacontn.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Crosstabs-Party-Voting-History-2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recent poll<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;of likely voters by The Beacon Center shows Blackburn with a 23-point lead over Johnson. Blackburn received an approval rating of 53%.
