This facility\u2064 reportedly holds \u200dabout 4,000 \u2063Palestinian detainees, many of whom are suspected Hamas\u2063 combatants, and has faced serious\u2062 accusations of\u200c torture, rape, and\u200c other forms of abuse by \u200bits\u200b staff. The investigation \u2063centers around an Israeli military unit called Force 100, which \u2064has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/shark-tanks-kevin-oleary-says-20-of-his-portfolio-is-in-crypto\/\" title=\"Shark Tank\u2019s Kevin O\u2019Leary Says 20% of His Portfolio Is in Crypto\">attracted considerable attention<\/a> after members\u2064 were implicated in a highly \u2064publicized incident involving the gang rape of a prisoner.<\/p>\n<p>The probe is being conducted under the Leahy Law,\u200d which prohibits\u200b U.S. military funding for <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">foreign units facing credible human rights accusations<\/a>.\u200c Officials from both\u200b the U.S. and Israel confirmed that the U.S. Embassy \u2063has been in contact\u2062 with the Israeli Foreign Ministry regarding these \u200ballegations. Although Israel is cooperating with \u2062the investigation, \u200da definitive\u2063 conclusion has yet\u200c to\u2064 be reached. (Breaking The Silence via AP)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The investigation is probing an Israeli unit in charge of guarding the base, called Force 100. The unit drew international attention after several members were arrested following the release of footage showing the gang rape of a prisoner.<\/p>\n<p>The investigation is under the Leahy Law, a 1997 piece of legislation that bans U.S. funding for or training with units credibly accused of human rights violations.<\/p>\n<p>Two senior Israeli officials told the outlet that the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem had reached out to the Israeli Foreign Ministry last week with a list of questions regarding alleged human rights violations by Force 100. One U.S. official said that Israel has cooperated with the investigation and that the State Department hadn&rsquo;t reached a conclusive verdict yet.<\/p>\n<p>If the investigation were to find human rights abuses from the group that weren&rsquo;t rectified, Force 100 would be the first Israel Defense Forces unit to be sanctioned by the United States. However, this isn&rsquo;t the first investigation into one.<\/p>\n<p>In April,&nbsp;it&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/foreign-policy\/2973226\/us-to-announce-first-sanctions-against-an-idf-unit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">emerged<\/a>&nbsp;that Secretary of State Antony Blinken would announce sanctions against the IDF&rsquo;s 97th Netzah Yehuda Battalion over alleged crimes committed during its time in the West Bank. Shortly after, the U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/foreign-policy\/2981138\/us-backtracks-sanction-idf-unit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"paused\">paused<\/a> the effort after&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/israel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Israel<\/a>&nbsp;provided further information about the unit.<\/p>\n<p>The alleged crimes that caused the unit to be targeted were committed before Oct. 7 and took place in the West Bank, unrelated to the conflict with Hamas.
