This bill,\u200c passed by the Tennessee General Assembly\u200d in 2023 \u200cand signed by Governor\u200c Bill Lee, was intended to take effect\u2064 on July\u2062 1, 2023. Bill Lee would have taken effect on July 1, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The American Civil Liberties Union, Lambda Legal and Akin Gump Strauss Hauer &amp; Feld filed a suit, saying the&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/wapp.capitol.tn.gov\/apps\/billinfo\/default.aspx?BillNumber=sb0001\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">law violated<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;the 14th Amendment.<\/p>\n<p>The law bans health-care providers from performing gender-affirming surgeries on minors or prescribing hormones or puberty blockers to minors.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Laws like Tennessee&rsquo;s are not benign regulations of medical care; they are discriminatory efforts to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/male-swimmer-lia-thomas-now-goes-after-feminists-who-refuse-to-conform-to-trans-agenda-accuses-them-of-pushing-transphobic-beliefs\/\" title=\"Swimmer Lia Thomas targets non-conforming feminists, accuses them of promoting transphobia.\">exclude transgender people<\/a> from the protections of the Constitution,&rdquo; Chase Strangio, co-director of the ACLU&rsquo;s LGBTQ &amp; HIV Project, said in a release earlier this month. &ldquo;These bans represent a dangerous and discriminatory affront to the well-being of transgender youth across the country and their constitutional right to equal protection under the law.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/tennessee\/article_82708850-3252-11ef-bf74-4786273a6e94.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said previously<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;he looks forward to fighting the case in the country&rsquo;s highest court.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We fought hard to defend Tennessee&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/judge-worries-florida-law-protecting-kids-would-suppress-the-speech-of-drag-queen-performers-he-blocks-it\/\" title=\"Judge blocks Florida law protecting kids, citing concerns over suppressing drag queen performers&#039;
