During the debate, she claimed that no U.S.\u200b military personnel were \u2062in combat zones, a statement \u200cmet with disbelief on social media.<\/p>\n<p>Harris has been criticized for referencing debunked narratives, such as the &#8220;very fine people&#8221; incident,\u2062 without challenge from \u2062debate moderators. In contrast, Trump faced scrutiny from\u200c a \u2062media environment that\u2064 has traditionally been skeptical\u2064 of Republican \u2062candidates, with many deeming his statements questionable. Throughout the campaign, Trump has used <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/health-officials-backtrack-did-they-just-admit-this\/\" title=\"Health Officials Backtrack, Did They Just Admit This?\">alternative media platforms<\/a> \u200dto reach voters\u2062 directly, discussing personal topics and addressing serious issues without the constraints of mainstream media scrutiny.<\/p>\n<p>Harris\u200d has struggled to articulate her achievements in \u200bthe Biden administration, often stumbling during interviews and failing to present a clear agenda\u200d for\u200b change. Out of the four controversial live fact-checks issued during the prime-time debate, not one of them were made against Harris, who, as the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/graham-if-democrats-call-witnesses-at-trial-we-will-call-democrats-thatve-used-inflammatory-language\/\" title=\"Graham: If Democrats Call Witnesses At Trial We Will Call Democrats That\u2019ve Used Inflammatory Language\">sitting vice president<\/a> <\/em>was allowed to claim &ldquo;not one member of the United States military who is in active duty in a combat zone in any warzone around the world [for] the first time this century.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<div lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>Kamala Harris: There&#8217;s not one military member in a combat zone today. <\/p>\n<p>Military in combat zones: &#8220;Wait, what!? When Harris was asked whether there was anything she might have done differently than President Joe Biden over the last four years, her response was &ldquo;not a thing that comes to mind.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<div lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>Donald J. Harris, however, doubled down on her strategy of &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=rjkLKKgOMRY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">no ragrets<\/a>&rdquo; just a month before voting ends.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I&rsquo;m obviously not Joe Biden,&rdquo; she said. &ldquo;So that would be one change.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<div lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>Colbert asks: &#8220;Under a Harris administration, what would the major changes be and what would stay the same?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Harris: &#8220;Sure. Well, I mean, I&#8217;m obviously not Joe Biden. So that would be one change. While Harris escaped fair criticism from the debate moderators with ABC, Trump was confronted with dubious &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2024\/09\/11\/conservatives-cry-foul-as-abc-fact-checks-debate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fact-checks<\/a>&rdquo; that are highly subjective but at this point, predictable.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has responded to the antagonistic media environment by doing exactly what he did in 2015 and 2016. By embracing Twitter as an avenue of direct appeal to voters eight years ago, Trump leveraged alternative media that him to circumvent the hysterical press coverage. Once again, Trump has leveraged a changing media environment to his advantage by appearing on long-form podcasts while still participating in most of the traditional forums that define presidential elections, such as debates, press conferences, and town halls. The Republican nominee might have skipped this year&rsquo;s sit down with CBS&rsquo;s &ldquo;60 Minutes,&rdquo; but only after the network&rsquo;s special was particularly egregious last cycle when Lesley Stahl <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/10\/22\/heres-all-the-evidence-lesley-stahl-falsely-claimed-doesnt-exist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">combatively denounced<\/a> Trump&rsquo;s claims related to the Russia hoax and Hunter Biden&rsquo;s laptop, which have since proven true.<\/p>\n<p>Trump&rsquo;s embrace of long-form podcasts for the internet have allowed the former president to do two things: 1) present a genuine image of a major candidate engaged with an in-depth discussion free from the glare and hostility of prime-time television and 2) reach millions of voters who have otherwise tuned out of establishment media as their primary medium of information. <\/p>\n<p>A prime example of Trump&rsquo;s authenticity powerfully showcased in an online discussion was when comedian Theo Von spoke with the ex-president about addiction. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I had a great brother who taught me a lesson: Don&rsquo;t drink. Don&rsquo;t drink,&rdquo; Trump said. &ldquo;And he said &lsquo;don&rsquo;t smoke.&rsquo; He smoke and he drank.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Von spoke about his own recovery for &ldquo;most of the last 10 years&rdquo; from &ldquo;drugs and alcohol&rdquo; while asking Trump about the last moments spent with his brother.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;He&rsquo;d have periods where he&rsquo;d get sick, very sick. And we thought we&rsquo;d lose him, or we lost him, then he&rsquo;d get better,&rdquo; Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.happyscribe.com\/public\/this-past-weekend-w-theo-von\/e526-donald-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>. &ldquo;And that happened five or six times. I mean, well, you thought you lost him, and then he got better, and it was amazing. I mean, he was certainly very strong in that sense. I just tell people, it&rsquo;s so tragic. Don&rsquo;t drink. The FBI, Trump said, has yet to open the &ldquo;three or so cell phones&rdquo; possessed by the attempted shooter who stalked him on his Mar-a-Lago golf course.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;They had no problem getting the J6 people&rsquo;s cell phones open,&rdquo; Trump said. &ldquo;They opened their cell phones very quickly.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p>&mdash; LiveFree &#10424; St8 NME (@UBUandIXL) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/UBUandIXL\/status\/1844075329364820032?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 9, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span> <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Harris, whose own messy traditional interviews have apparently failed to move the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolling.com\/polls\/president\/general\/2024\/trump-vs-harris\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">polls <\/a>substantially in her favor, has been scrambling to adopt the Trump playbook while calling foul on the Republican strategy.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Today marks one month since Donald Trump sat down with mainstream reporters,&rdquo; the Harris campaign <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/harris-campaign-hits-trump-1-190253693.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> Monday. &ldquo;He pulled out of &rsquo;60 Minutes.&rsquo; He&rsquo;s refusing to debate. And he&rsquo;s refusing to release his medical records. What&rsquo;s he hiding?&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>A natural follow-up question for the vice president could be when she plans to hold a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/86-days-kamala-harris-has-yet-do-formal-press-conference-since-emerging-democratic-nominee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">press conference<\/a>, of which Trump has held several this year in addition to myriad interviews with antagonistic television hosts.<\/p>\n<p>Harris, meanwhile, is now trying to adopt Trump&rsquo;s campaign playbook with podcast interviews of her own, including one on the &ldquo;Call Her Daddy&rdquo; podcast and an <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/10\/15\/us-news\/harris-campaign-in-talks-with-joe-rogan-about-possible-podcast-interview-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">apparent plea<\/a> to appear on &ldquo;The Joe Rogan Experience.&rdquo; On Wednesday, Harris will give an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/vp-kamala-harris-sit-down-chief-political-anchor-bret-baier-first-formal-fox-news-interview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">interview<\/a> with Bret Baier on Fox News nearly a week after her town hall with Univision.<\/p>\n<p>Trump will answer voters&rsquo; questions in a follow-up town hall by Univision Wednesday night. <\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>      Tristan Justice is the western correspondent for The Federalist and the author of Social Justice Redux, a conservative newsletter on culture, health, and wellness.
