The pandas will fly aboard the specially chartered FedEx Boeing 777 cargo jet dubbed the &ldquo;Panda Express.&rdquo; Their departure is set for&nbsp;Monday.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We have prepared corn buns, bamboo shoots, carrots, water, and medicine to ensure the pandas&rsquo; needs are met during the flight,&rdquo; the China Wildlife Conservation Association said in a statement announcing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/billionaire-peter-thiel-supports-trump-for-president-gun-to-my-head-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Billionaire Peter Thiel supports Trump for president: &#039;Gun to my head&#039; - Washington Examiner\">pair&#038;rsquo<\/a>;s departure.<\/p>\n<p>Since 1972, the U.S. and China have engaged in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/future\/article\/20240226-a-brief-history-of-panda-diplomacy---with-new-additions-to-global-zoos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>panda diplomacy<\/a>. The first pandas <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2738906\/a-history-of-animal-diplomacy-involving-us-and-other-countries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>were sent to the U.S.<\/a> under former President Richard Nixon, and former first lady Pat Nixon donated them to the National Zoo.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the late 2010s, with a straining diplomatic relationship, China started not renewing contracts on their end. In 2019, the pandas at the San Diego Zoo returned to China, and late last year, the pandas in D.C. also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2574363\/smithsonian-giant-pandas-leave-us-for-china\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>embarked on their return<\/a> to China.<\/p>\n<p>Qing Bao and Bao Li are the first pandas China has sent to D.C. in 24 years. Both pandas will be loaned to the National Zoo for 10 years. The annual fee is a million dollars, which is spent on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-president-trump-gives-pardons-to-73-individuals-and-commutes-another-70-sentences-steve-bannon-is-included\/\" title=\"BREAKING: President Trump Gives Pardons to 73 Individuals and Commutes Another 70 Sentences \u2013 Steve Bannon Is Included\">conservation efforts<\/a> in China.<\/p>\n<p>While Bao Li was born in China, some of his family tree has D.C. roots, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/wtop.com\/dc\/2024\/10\/theyre-cute-cuddly-and-coming-to-america-chinas-newest-panda-diplomats-headed-for-washington\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>WTOP News<\/a>. His mother, Bao Bao, was born at the National Zoo in 2013 and returned to China four years later.
