Johnson was one of over 120 House Republicans to back <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/DocketPDF\/22\/22O155\/163550\/20201211132250339_Texas%20v.%20Pennsylvania%20Amicus%20Brief%20of%20126%20Representatives%20--%20corrected.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>a Texas lawsuit challenging the 2020 election results<\/a> in December of that year, with Cheney stating she did &ldquo;not have faith&rdquo; Johnson would fulfill his obligations as House speaker ahead of the 2024 election.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We had very clear and specific conversations about that,&rdquo; Cheney said on NBC News&rsquo;s <em>Meet the Press<\/em>. &ldquo;He knew that courts had specifically found that those claims were false. He knew they weren&rsquo;t true. He also knew that what he was urging Congress do in terms of throwing out the votes of millions of Americans, he knew with specificity that that was unconstitutional. As such, she claimed that it is &ldquo;very important&rdquo; the Republican Party does not have the majority in the House come 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The House speaker has stated that the House would &ldquo;absolutely&rdquo; certify the results of the 2024 election <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3165664\/leading-democrats-concerned-mike-johnsons-comments-election-certification\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>&ldquo;if we have a free, fair, and safe election.&rdquo;<\/a> House Administration Committee ranking member Joe Morelle (D-NY) has stated that Democrats are &ldquo;clearly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/leading-democrats-concerned-over-mike-johnsons-comments-on-election-certification-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Leading Democrats \u2018concerned\u2019 over Mike Johnson\u2019s comments on election certification - Washington Examiner\">paying attention&#038;rdquo<\/a>; to the process of certifying the next president, and that Johnson&rsquo;s comments &ldquo;give me <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sen-sgt-at-arms-cyber-attack-more-serious-than-2nd-jan-6-event\/\" title=\"Sen Sgt at Arms: Cyber attack more serious than 2nd Jan. 6 event\">greater concern<\/a>.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-CA) has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-republicans-look-to-hold-big-tech-accountable-targeting-links-to-china\/\" title=\"House Republicans Look To Hold Big Tech Accountable, Targeting Links To China\">similarly expressed concern<\/a> over Johnson&rsquo;s comment on certifying the election results. Like Cheney, Aguilar pointed to Johnson&rsquo;s record as a lack of indication &ldquo;that he should be believed.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) was pressed on if he would support certifying the election results next month.
