A total of 68 protesters have been charged with &#8220;criminal trespass,&#8221; a third-degree misdemeanor, for their\u2064 involvement in an encampment on the Old Main lawn, which \u2063was subsequently barricaded. Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell emphasized that while free speech\u200c is fundamental, it does \u200dnot permit illegal actions, highlighting that\u200c ASU&#8217;s policies prohibit encampments in that area. The protesters, many of whom were not students, allegedly ignored multiple requests to dismantle their encampment\u200d and leave the premises, prompting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-red-wave-of-conservative-women-elected-to-congress\/\" title=\"The Red Wave of Conservative Women Elected to Congress\">law enforcement<\/a> intervention \u200bto ensure the safety of the \u2062campus\u2063 community. The protestors &ndash; many of whom were not students &ndash; were given the chance, over and over again, to peacefully take down the encampments and leave the area. ASU, along with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/president-trump-pledges-orderly-transition-of-power\/\" title=\"President Trump pledges orderly transition of power\">local law enforcement<\/a>, had a responsibility to keep the area safe for students and faculty. My office is now playing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/vitamin-k-for-the-two-biggest-mens-health-problems\/\" title=\"Vitamin K for the Two Biggest Men&#039;s Health Problems\">equally important role<\/a> of holding these people accountable for their actions,&rdquo; Mitchell continued.<\/p>\n<p>The charges were announced just days after the one-year anniversary of the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks on Israel, in which more than 1,200 people died and hundreds of hostages were taken. The protests have largely ranged from criticism of the military response of the attacks being disproportionate to wanting Israel being no longer recognized as a nation.<\/p>\n<p>The demonstration was one of many to break out around the country, including at high-profile private institutions like Columbia University in New York.
