The deadline\u200d for registration was set\u2062 for Monday, making it impossible \u2062for late registrants to participate in the upcoming Nov. 5 election. Two lawsuits, \u200done from the NAACP concerning \u200bGeorgia and another by the League of Women Voters of Florida along with the Florida NAACP regarding Florida, sought to\u200b extend the registration deadlines\u2014by one week in Georgia and ten\u200c days in Florida\u2014citing challenges posed by the hurricane. Two different <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/3182997\/florida-georgia-pressure-extend-voter-registration-deadlines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"lawsuits\">lawsuits<\/a> were brought in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tiktok-sues-montana-over-state-ban\/\" title=\"TikTok sues Montana for banning the app.\">federal court seeking<\/a> to extend the deadline by a week in Georgia and by 10 days in Florida.<\/p>\n<p>The NAACP filed the lawsuit aimed at Georgia&rsquo;s deadline, while the League of Women Voters of Florida and the Florida State Conference of the NAACP filed the lawsuit concerning Florida&rsquo;s deadline. Both lawsuits had hearings over preliminary injunctions on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Robert Hinkle of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida rejected the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ben-jerrys-takes-action-against-its-parent-company-to-continue-boycotting-israel\/\" title=\"Ben &amp; Jerry\u2019s Takes Action Against Its Parent Company To Continue Boycotting Israel\">requested temporary restraining order<\/a> or preliminary injunction on Flordia&rsquo;s deadline on Wednesday, while Judge Eleanor Ross of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia rejected the attempt to extend the Georgia deadline on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Both lawsuits cited Helene&rsquo;s impact hampering voters&rsquo; ability to register as their rationale for extending the deadline. (AP Photo\/Jason Allen)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Georgia NAACP expressed disappointment over the rejection but said its &ldquo;resolve remains unwavering.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We will continue to fight relentlessly for voter access in Georgia, as we are committed to ensuring that every citizen&rsquo;s voice is heard at the ballot box. Securing and protecting voting rights is fundamental to our democracy, and we will not rest until full and fair access is guaranteed for all Georgians,&rdquo; Georgia NAACP President Gerald Griggs said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>League of Women Voters of Florida Co-Presidents Cecile Scoon and Debbie Chandler also shared their disappointment at the Florida lawsuit being rejected.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The League believes that mandatory evacuations for both Hurricanes Helene and Milton left many citizens more focused on survival than on registering to vote.
