According to a report from the nonprofit group \u200bDo No Harm, Washington state ranks among the top ten states for such procedures performed on minors, with Seattle Children\u2019s Hospital being the\u200b leading medical\u200c facility\u200c in \u200dthis regard. Between 2019\u200c and 2023, the hospital treated 246 patients \u200bfor\u2062 puberty blockers and 50\u200b patients for gender reassignment \u2062surgery.<\/p>\n<p>Data indicates that there\u200c were significant numbers of minors receiving hormone \u2064blockers \u2064(772) and gender reassignment surgeries (330) in Washington state during this period, which places the state third\u200d nationally for such treatments among\u2062 minors. Although the number of these treatments peaked in previous years, there was\u200b a noticeable \u200cdecline in 2023, though levels remained \u200bhigher than in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Seattle Children\u2019s Hospital \u2062operates a gender \u200cclinic \u200dnoted for offering \u200cgender-affirming surgeries and requires parental consent for treatments. The clinic caters to patients\u200d aged 9 to 17.75 who have started puberty, while those above 17.75 are directed to external community resources. Types of sex reassignment surgeries include procedures such as &lsquo;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/stoptheharmdatabase.com\/method\/#:~:text=%E2%80%9CTOP%20SURGERY%E2%80%9D,female%2Dappearing%20chest.\">top surgery<\/a><\/strong>,&rsquo; &lsquo;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/stoptheharmdatabase.com\/method\/#:~:text=%22BOTTOM%20SURGERY%22,allow%20for%20erection.\">bottom surgery<\/a><\/strong>,&rsquo; and facial&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/stoptheharmdatabase.com\/method\/#:~:text=FACIAL%20FEMINIZATION%20SURGERY,and%20earlobe%20reduction.\">feminization<\/a><\/strong>\/<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/stoptheharmdatabase.com\/method\/#:~:text=FACIAL%20MASCULINIZATION%20SURGERY,an%20Adam%E2%80%99s%20apple.\">masculinization<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;surgeries.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>According to the nonprofit&rsquo;s database, the number of patients for both puberty blockers and surgeries increased from 2019 to 2022, but fell dramatically in 2023; however, both remained at levels above 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The most prominent medical location for gender reassignment treatment was Seattle&rsquo;s Children&rsquo;s Hospital, which between 2019-2023 had a total of 246 hormone puberty blocker patients and 50 surgery patients. A total of $1.4 million was billed for these services, though this data does not include patients who paid partially or fully out of pocket. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Seattle Children&rsquo;s Hospital has a gender&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattlechildrens.org\/clinics\/gender-clinic\/\"><strong>clinic<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattlechildrens.org\/clinics\/plastic-surgery\/surgical-gender-affirmation-program\/\"><strong>describes<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;itself as &ldquo;the only pediatric academic medical center with fellowship-trained&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattlechildrens.org\/clinics\/plastic-surgery\/\"><strong>plastic surgeons<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/libs-of-tiktok-locked-out-of-twitter-again\/\" title=\"Libs of TikTok Locked Out of Twitter \u2013 Again\">provide gender-affirming surgery<\/a> in our region,&rdquo; though genital surgeries are restricted to those 18 or older.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;For other surgeries, timing depends on many factors, like the patient&rsquo;s stage of puberty and how surgery fits with the rest of their gender-related healthcare,&rdquo; the website states. &ldquo;A typical age is mid-teens or older.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>According to its website, they accept new patients ages 9 to 17.75 &ldquo;at the time of referral who have already started puberty,&rdquo; while those 17.75 or older and patients who have not yet started puberty are &ldquo;directed to community resources.&rdquo; Parental or guardian consent is required for treatments unless the patient is an&nbsp;emancipated minor.<\/p>\n<p>The gender clinic also partners with the hospital&rsquo;s autism&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattlechildrens.org\/clinics\/autism-center\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">center<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;&ldquo;to coordinate care for children and teens with autism and related social challenges.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, doctors from Seattle Children&rsquo;s Hospital released a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/publications.aap.org\/pediatrics\/article-abstract\/153\/1\/e2023064292\/196236\/Prohibition-of-Gender-Affirming-Care-as-a-Form-of?redirectedFrom=fulltext?autologincheck=redirected\"><strong>paper<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;arguing that &ldquo;withholding GAC (gender affirming care) is harmful to children and amounts to state-sanctioned medical neglect and emotional abuse.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Also earlier this year, Seatle Children&rsquo;s Hospital reached a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2024\/04\/22\/texas-trans-health-care-investigation-seattle\/\"><strong>settlement<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;with Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton after his office sought to obtain medical records from the hospital under the suspicion it was providing gender reassignment services to minors traveling from Texas, where those services are prohibited. As part of the settlement, the hospital withdrew its business license from Texas.<\/p>\n<p>The Family Policy Institute of Washington is a religious organization that &ldquo;serve(s) as the bridge between culture and government &ndash; interfacing with churches, pastors, government leaders, and media to articulate a clear vision for healthy families in our state.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>CEO and President Brian Noble told The Center Square that that he thought the numbers of gender reassignment procedures statewide &ldquo;are actually lower than I thought they would be,&rdquo; but also said &ldquo;one of the things that I believe that is causing great anxiety within our young people is to remove the foundation of the scientific evidence of who they are. It&rsquo;s not surprising to me that the Covid lockdown produced the harvest of certain people questioning their gender.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>He added that &ldquo;this report is about minors.
