This area has historically been significant\u2064 in presidential elections, having supported the winning candidate in the\u2062 last four cycles. While Harris&#8217;s ground game surpasses that \u2063of former President Donald Trump,\u2063 recent reports\u200c indicate that black voters remain unimpressed. Some voters express a preference for Trump, citing \u200ba lack \u200cof tangible offerings for\u2062 straight\u2064 Black males from the Harris campaign, focusing more on issues such \u2062as LGBTQ rights and abortion which they feel do \u200cnot resonate with them. Although one voter stated they would support Harris, they acknowledged that enthusiasm for\u200b her within the \u200bAfrican American community is not strong. With it, he lost Pennsylvania and the White House. This time around, Harris appears to be besting Republicans yet again with an impressive ground game in the battleground county. But despite her best efforts, black voters aren&rsquo;t impressed with what they&rsquo;re seeing, according to a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/trump-harris-fight-pennsylvania-county-known-picking-presidents-2024-10-09\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><em>Reuters<\/em><\/a>  report.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>One black voter said he&rsquo;s backing Trump because he&rsquo;s more &ldquo;factual.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We don&rsquo;t care about LBGT rights. We don&rsquo;t care about, you know, abortion rights. We&rsquo;re not worried about that,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;They don&rsquo;t offer anything to the straight Black male voters.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Trump speaks at a campaign rally Sunday, Sept. 29, 2024, in Erie, Pa. (AP Photo\/Matt Rourke)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In a county touted by one of Harris&rsquo;s own campaign volunteers for its &ldquo;bellwether&rdquo; status, his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/twisters-is-a-success-because-it-omits-f-words-sex-and-politics\/\" title=\"&#039;Twisters&#039; Is A Success Because It Omits F-Words, Sex, and Politics\">words don&#038;rsquo<\/a>;t bode well. The voting bloc comprises about 16% of Erie&rsquo;s population, which mirrors their representation across all 50 states.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Another black voter is voting for Harris, but warned that enthusiasm for her within the African American community is &ldquo;just not that intense.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Their words come as Trump has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/youngkin-campaign-bullish-on-election-eve\/\" title=\"Youngkin Campaign Bullish on Election Eve\">made significant inroads<\/a> in his outreach to the black community.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>While he captured <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/politics\/2021\/06\/30\/behind-bidens-2020-victory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>8%<\/a> of the black vote four years ago, polling from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2024\/09\/19\/us\/politics\/times-siena-inquirer-poll-pennsylvania-likely-electorate.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><em>New York Times <\/em><\/a>showed Trump garnering 13% support from the voting bloc in Pennsylvania last month. Nationally, he&rsquo;s polling at roughly 15% with black voters, with some surveys indicating support could be even higher.<\/p>\n<p>In Erie, the black community&rsquo;s tepid response to Harris comes despite the fact that her campaign made major investments in voter outreach.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Harris and the Democrats are investing deeply in a more traditional ground game here,&rdquo; Chris Borick, a political science <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/higher-education\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>professor<\/a> at Pennsylvania&rsquo;s Muhlenberg College told the outlet.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Trump campaign has just two paid staffers in one office in the county, holds two volunteer &ldquo;Trump Force 47&rdquo; activities a week, and is at a disadvantage to the Harris <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/campaign\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>campaign<\/a> for volunteer presence, per the report. Meanwhile, Erie&rsquo;s three campaign offices for Harris have eight paid staffers and more than 300 volunteers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With much of its ground efforts outsourced to organizations like Turning Point Action, the former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-taking-regeneron-drug-remdesivir-therapy-for-coronavirus-diagnosis-ex-wh-doctor-explains\/\" title=\"Trump taking Regeneron drug, Remdesivir therapy for coronavirus diagnosis: ex-WH doctor explains\">president&#038;rsquo<\/a>;s campaign appears to be relying on &ldquo;the power of [Trump&rsquo;s] personal pull,&rdquo; Borick said.
