The \u200ccase\u2062 originated from a memo issued \u2063by \u2062Attorney General Merrick \u200cGarland \u2063on \u2063October 4,\u200c 2021, which activated the FBI to\u200c address increasing harassment and violence\u200d towards school administrators amidst \u2064rising tensions over\u200d school \u200cpolicies revealed during COVID-19 lockdowns. This\u200c included discussions\u2062 about transgender \u2063student\u200b management and\u200b critical race theory.<\/p>\n<p>The America Freedom \u2064Law Center represented parents from Saline, Michigan, and Loudoun,\u200c Virginia, accusing the DOJ of attempting to suppress parental expression\u200d concerning public\u200b education policies.\u2063 Critics, especially from conservative circles,\u2063 argued that the evidence for threats outlined in \u200dthe \u200cmemo was weak and claimed the National School Boards Association&#8217;s \u2063involvement reflected\u200b a political motivation to label \u2062parents \u2063as \u200ca threat. Following backlash, the NSBA\u2062 later retracted its\u2064 statements. The most controversial policies focused on managing students who say they are transgender and infusing teachings with critical race theory, an academic concept that assumes black people are systemically oppressed.<\/p>\n<p>Garland cited in the memo a &ldquo;disturbing spike in harassment, intimidation, and threats of violence&rdquo; toward school administrators as his reason for mobilizing the FBI. He ordered agents to meet with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/president-trump-pledges-orderly-transition-of-power\/\" title=\"President Trump pledges orderly transition of power\">local law enforcement<\/a> across the country to strategize on how to manage the threats.<\/p>\n<p>The memo drew criticism from conservatives who said evidence of widespread threats toward administrators was flimsy and that the memo was the product of the National School Boards Association working with President Joe Biden to create alarm over what the NSBA <a href=\"https:\/\/defendinged.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Letter.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>described<\/a> as &ldquo;domestic terrorism&rdquo; against administrators. The NSBA later retracted its comments.<\/p>\n<p>America Freedom Law Center attorneys wrote that parents were &ldquo;rightly outraged&rdquo; about the direction education policy was headed in some school districts and that Garland&rsquo;s memo was a veiled attempt to perpetuate &ldquo;progressive&rdquo; viewpoints.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Parents and private citizens who fund our public schools through their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/watch-democrat-congressman-uses-national-guard-in-apparent-political-stunt-against-gop-member\/\" title=\"WATCH: Democrat Congressman Uses National Guard In Apparent \u2018Political Stunt\u2019 Against GOP Member\">hard-earned tax dollars<\/a>, including Plaintiffs, are rightly outraged by the notion that parents must surrender their children, under compulsion of law, to school officials who are bent on indoctrinating these young students with false, divisive, harmful, immoral, and racist dogma and ideology,&rdquo; the attorneys wrote.<\/p>\n<p>A federal judge in Washington, D.C., who was appointed by former President Donald Trump, tossed out the case, saying the parents whom America Freedom Law Center represented had no standing.
