She was found guilty\u2063 of\u2062 allowing an\u200b associate of MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell access to Colorado&#8217;s election systems and misrepresenting\u200d the man&#8217;s identity to\u200c other officials. These \u200cactions stemmed from unfounded allegations pushed by Lindell regarding voter system manipulations during the 2020 elections. A jury convicted\u2064 Peters in August, and \u200cduring her sentencing, District Judge Matthew Barrett criticized her\u2064 for abusing her position of power,\u2063 stating that she would likely\u200b repeat \u2062her actions if given the chance. Lindell has pushed unfounded claims that voter systems in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/2020-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Colorado\">2020<\/a> were hacked to hurt former President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>The former clerk was convicted by a jury in Colorado district court in August, receiving her nine-year sentence on Thursday from District Judge Matthew Barrett. During the sentencing hearing, Barrett suggested that Peters had &ldquo;abused&rdquo; her position, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/tina-peters-colorado-clerk-election-vote-fraud-b456ce4f80dc97f4b967eb6297311a51\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"according to\">according to<\/a> the <em>Associated Press<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I am convinced you would do it all over again if you could. You&rsquo;re as defiant as any defendant this court has ever seen,&rdquo; Barrett said during the hearing. &ldquo;You are no hero. You abused your position and you&rsquo;re a charlatan.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The jury found her guilty of three counts of attempting to influence a public servant, one count of conspiracy to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/colorado-clerk-who-pushed-election-fraud-theory-found-guilty-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Colorado clerk who pushed election fraud theory found guilty - Washington Examiner\">commit criminal impersonation<\/a>, first-degree official misconduct, violation of duty, and failing to comply with the secretary of state. She was found not guilty on counts of identity fraud, conspiracy to commit criminal impersonation, and criminal impersonation.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the process, Peters has maintained her innocence, telling the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/courts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>court<\/a> during the trial that she &ldquo;only wanted to serve the people of Mesa County.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Peters sent a text message to the&nbsp;<em>Washington Examiner&nbsp;<\/em>last month vowing &ldquo;There will be an appeal on the state case.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Following her conviction in August, Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser said that the verdict was justice for the violation of trust Peters committed against her fellow Coloradans.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Today&rsquo;s verdict is a warning to others that they will face serious consequences if they attempt to illegally tamper with our voting processes or election systems,&rdquo; Wesier said. &ldquo;I want to be clear&mdash;our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>elections<\/a> are safe and fair. In fact, Colorado&rsquo;s election system is the gold standard of the nation.
