A \u2062report by\u200b Will Thibeau, director of\u2063 the American\u2063 Military Project at\u200c the Claremont Institute, argues that \u2063this focus is negatively affecting the military&#8217;s readiness amidst a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/zelensky-condemns-attack-by-iran\/\" title=\"Zelensky criticizes Iran&#039;s attack\">volatile global landscape<\/a>. The\u2064 analysis \u200dsuggests that an increasing\u200b preoccupation with racial and \u2063gender politics is undermining the military&#8217;s traditional values \u200cand effectiveness.<\/p>\n<p>Thibeau asserts that the \u200dmilitary&#8217;s descent \u2063into identity politics began \u200cdecades \u200dago, initially intended as an effort\u200c to eradicate racial \u200bdiscrimination, but \u200bhas since transformed into a situation where group\u2064 quotas and\u200c forced equality based on race\u200d and gender are\u200b prioritized. He points to the influence of \u200dvarious administrations, both Democratic and Republican, \u2063in this shift, highlighting historical policies \u2062that have contributed\u200c to \u2064the current \u200dstate \u2062of the military.<\/p>\n<p>Concerns are also \u2064raised about the necessity of\u2063 adapting recruitment strategies\u2063 based on demographic changes,\u200d which Thibeau contends is proving ineffective, especially with recent recruiting shortfalls exacerbated by the policies pushed during the Biden-Harris administration. Despite\u2064 some branches meeting \u200crecruitment goals, they have had to lower traditional qualifying standards,\u200d raising questions about the long-term implications for military \u200breadiness \u200band effectiveness. But what happens when that objective gets sidelined in favor of advancing a neo-Marxist agenda?<\/p>\n<p>According to a recently published <a href=\"https:\/\/dc.claremont.org\/identity-in-the-trenches-the-fatal-impact-of-diversity-equity-and-inclusion-on-u-s-military-readiness\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report<\/a> by Will Thibeau, director of the American Military Project at the Claremont Institute, the U.S. military&rsquo;s embrace of radical left-wing orthodoxy is hampering its overall readiness and ability to respond to an increasingly volatile geopolitical environment. Titled, &ldquo;Identity in the Trenches: The Fatal Impact of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion on U.S. Military Readiness,&rdquo; the analysis explores how the military&rsquo;s heightened obsession with racial and gender politics is contributing to these growing problems.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The United States Armed Forces were once the envy of the world, in large part because we selected the best of the best, and instilled in our fighting men an unshakeable military ethos,&rdquo; the report reads. &ldquo;Both the ethos and the selection, however, have been in steady decline as the Department of Defense succumbs to a dangerous ideology: that of group quotas, or forced outcome equality for identity groups based on race and sex.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>While many Americans have come to associate the military&rsquo;s modern embrace of <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/dei\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">radical DEI politics<\/a> with policies enacted under the Biden-Harris administration, the infiltration of neo-Marxist ideology into America&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/report-military-focus-on-dei-undermines-readiness\/\" title=\"Report: Military Focus on DEI Undermines Readiness\">armed forces began decades prior<\/a>. What started as a seemingly good-faith effort to eradicate racial discrimination in the military during the Truman administration later devolved into a drawn-out ploy by race-obsessed leftists to &ldquo;quickly plant[] the seeds of more aggressive racial policies,&rdquo; according to the report. <\/p>\n<p>Citing policies implemented under Democrat presidents, from Lyndon Johnson to Joe Biden, Thibeau noted how the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gold-medalist-found-sleeping-in-the-park-after-raging-over-olympic-village-conditions-the-food-is-bad\/\" title=\"Gold Medalist Found Sleeping in the Park After Raging Over Olympic Village Conditions - &#039;The Food Is Bad&#039;\">left-wing &#038;ldquo<\/a>;transformation&rdquo; of America&rsquo;s military &ldquo;cannot be blamed entirely on progressive presidents.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Civil Rights-era Supreme Court decisions, racial conditions on funding imposed by Congress, initiatives by the military bureaucracy, interference by outside activist groups &mdash; all these and more were essential to turning the merit-based force that won two world wars into an identity-centric institution that has not seen a major victory since 1991,&rdquo; he wrote. <\/p>\n<p>And it&rsquo;s not only Democrat administrations during which this radical reimagining of the armed forces took place, either. The analysis specifically details a 2008 report published by the Army&rsquo;s &ldquo;Diversity Task Force&rdquo; under the administration of Republican President George W. Bush that provided reasons on why &ldquo;diversity&rdquo; &mdash; a term weaponized by leftists to justify discrimination based on their preferred identitarian standards &mdash; is critical in the development of military policy.<\/p>\n<p>In a section labeled, &ldquo;Accessions,&rdquo; for example, the task force regurgitated leftists&rsquo; racialist worldview by claiming the Army &ldquo;must understand America&rsquo;s diverse citizenry and be able to recruit across that diversity to bring in the talented people we need.&rdquo; It also argued that, &ldquo;Valued, inspired employees working in an inclusive environment will help deliver a positive message to prospective Soldiers, Civilians, and their influencers.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The assumption by the Army, Thibeau contends, is &ldquo;demographic change will make race-based recruitment practices a necessity&rdquo; and that DEI &ldquo;will prevent our force numbers from falling off a demographic cliff.&rdquo; Given the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/09\/27\/americas-military-cant-endure-another-four-years-of-democrat-rule\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recruiting shortfalls<\/a> in the years since the Biden-Harris administration accelerated the military&rsquo;s implementation of such policies, however, that claim holds little weight. <\/p>\n<p>While it&rsquo;s true the <a href=\"https:\/\/gazette.com\/military\/army-meets-recruiting-goal-but-total-number-of-new-soldiers-flat-year-over-year\/article_c3776648-801d-11ef-97df-8be2163e959b.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Army<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/news.usni.org\/2024\/10\/01\/navy-marine-exceed-fiscal-year-2024-recruiting-retention-goals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Navy, Marines<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.military.com\/daily-news\/2024\/09\/17\/air-force-hits-recruiting-goals-help-tweaks-body-fat-standards-tattoo-policy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Air Force<\/a> all (barely) met their recruiting targets this fiscal year, many of these branches had to lower benchmarks traditionally required to qualify for military service. <\/p>\n<p>As The Federalist previously <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/08\/21\/report-pentagon-to-make-entrance-exams-easier-amid-military-recruiting-crisis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>, in 2022, the Army and Navy gutted certain academic requirements in their respective branches for potential recruits seeking to join the service. Meanwhile, the Air Force lowered its entry standards last year by &ldquo;allow[ing] applicants to have a greater percentage of body fat,&rdquo; according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.military.com\/daily-news\/2024\/09\/17\/air-force-hits-recruiting-goals-help-tweaks-body-fat-standards-tattoo-policy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Military.com<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;[Thepromisesof2008notwithstandingtheeffectofDoD&rsquo;sdiversity-centricrecruitmentstrategyhasbeenfewerenlisteesatlowerlevelsofcompetencyatdemonstrablyhighercost&rdquo;Thibeausummarized[Thepromisesof2008notwithstandingtheeffectofDoD&rsquo;sdiversity-centricrecruitmentstrategyhasbeenfewerenlisteesatlowerlevelsofcompetencyatdemonstrablyhighercost&rdquo;Thibeausummarized<\/p>\n<p>The Claremont scholar concluded his analysis by calling for the military to return to its &ldquo;rigorous standards&rdquo; that made it the most revered fighting force in the world. To accomplish this, Thibeau recommended the Pentagon to &ldquo;end all consideration of race and sex in the evaluation of personnel, contracts, and programs&rdquo; and &ldquo;put aside&rdquo; ideology &ldquo;in the interest of developing an optimized fighting force.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;As President Donald Trump discovered in his first term &hellip; the implementation of policy is contingent on an effective bureaucracy that follows the orders of politically accountable civilians,&rdquo; he wrote. &ldquo;To this end, a number of important structural reforms in the Pentagon should accompany targeted efforts to dismantle the DEI bureaucracy at the Department of Defense.
