Dockworkers at East Coast and Gulf Coast ports initiated a strike on Tuesday, marking the first such action since 1977, which is anticipated to shut down 14 of the largest ports in the U.S., as reported by CBS. This strike quickly led to rising panic buying, with residents like Elizabeth Hollis from Hampton Roads, Virginia, expressing surprise at empty shelves for items like disinfectant sprays. While the strike will affect imports significantly, most toilet paper and paper towels are produced domestically. However, prolonged strikes could lead to dwindling supplies and increased prices for various goods. George Berry from For Truckers by Truckers urged people to stock up on essentials without panicking. Reports indicate that price hikes ranging from 20% to 200% are expected due to supply shortages affecting food items as well.
